JSS (Just Survive, Somehow)

both of the first aid books would not let me learn first aid didnt try any of the others because figured if I couldnt learn to make bandages it would be hard to live in the mod lol

Yes the first aid book was one of the ones that was bugged originally (a typo on my part), it is working now. Thank you for reporting back.

Didn't start with the class paper. (edit: not seeing it in creative menu either)

When loading I got: ERR XML loader: Loading and parsing 'quests.xml' failed

exception: quest with id of 'quest_FirstAid" already exists.

Only other mods I have are your Wildlands mod and the SMX mods. Wildlands and JSS are the only 2 that have anything to do with quests.xml. This was a new game created specifically for trying out JSS.

You're probably not seeing the class paper because of the error (it is probably not loading the mod at all once that happens) but I don't know why you get that error, it isn't doing it for me. 'quest_FirstAid' isn't in vanilla so I don't understand how it could already exist. Puzzling

The mod is loading. I get all the magazines and such. I just used creative menu to give me what was listed next to the class/job I wanted. I haven't noticed any other issues yet, so I'm not sure what's going on either.

Thank you to everyone who has tried the mod and sent me feedback; there is even more new stuff in it now and I've tried to update the original post to reflect the additions. Kresdja I do not know any more about the error you are getting at startup, however I did comment out that firstaid quest since it was just a placeholder anyway for something I haven't gotten working. So it might be worth another try.

If anybody knows how to get crafting experience from recipes I would love to know - the mechanism that worked in A16 seems to be broken and nothing I have tried has worked. So for now your only "reward" for crafting difficult items like the chess set are the high sales price you can get from the traders for it.

Book Problems

Been loving the mod and have gotten basically every book along with 2 other friends playing.. Though one book that does not seem to be working and even went through configs to try figure out and fix myself was Cookbook: Grandpa's Moonshine (Awesome Sauce, Elixir) has not worked for any of us at this point and we've obtained and read a few times now.. Even searched in configs to remove tag=learnable if it was there, but this is last resort to reach out to you for assistance at this point.

Thanks for pointing that out - there was a typo but I fixed it now so it should work in the latest version.

mjrice Some food without characteristics. Does not show already read books.
Hi Tarch, thank you, these are both known issues and are outside my capability to fix. The descriptions are only pulled from localization.txt and can not be modded by the new system. I wish TFP would fix it. The code for recognizing already read books is likewise broken and I hope they will fix it or show how to work around it, but nothing I have tried works.

I have added Wheat to the mod as a crop that you can grow. Wheat can be ground into sacks of flour which will then be used in recipes. At the moment only the Tortilla recipe uses flour but more will come now that I have the basic groundwork in for growing it.

An interesting thing with Wheat, you can find it in some loot containers or buy wheat seeds at the trader but it is not currently found in the wild (not sure if I should change that, I kind of like it this way but would like your opinion).

Also the Farmer satchel comes with some wheat seeds to get you started if you want to grow wheat right away.

Why do you add a bunch of unnecessary stuff? In the game itself there are a large number of little-used items. Make recipes with these items. For example, what's stopping you from using corn flour?

I add what I think would be fun to play, that is what makes it a game. Technically, none of this is "necessary". Why for example are there more than one POI? Why not just have one house that is repeated ad infinitum?

The good news is, you are welcome to play vanilla or your own mods.

Also, I do use corn flour. They are interchangeable in this case.

Quick note on updates: I removed the need to read a book to make grilled meats or stewed (boiled) meats. Since those already require you to find the proper cooking tool it seemed aggravating to also require a skill book.

Also, both strawberries and wheat now will cultivate like the other crops (punch-harvest-replant works properly now and it will honor your harvesting skill level).

Give it a shot and post any errors that pop up. Hit F1 once the game is loaded and scroll up looking for yellow and red errors. That will let you know if there is any issues. My guess is some items might need renaming and may need a little tweaking to one of the progression xmls.

My friend and I are really enjoying your mod. Just the right changes that we like along with Wild Lands as one really good mixtures of biomes. Where is good place to look for coal underground because we didn't find burned forest? And are we just that unlucky that we didn't find recepie for forged steel? Lvl 70-ish and on day 13 - little to fast leveling for my taste but I don't mind. ;)

Thanks, I am really glad you are having fun with it. The crucible book is what unlocks forged steel, which should appear in places like bookshelves, but perhaps the probability is a little too low. Also I see now that I missed including it in the trader stock options and quest rewards, which should be other ways to obtain it. I will probably patch that in the next update. Let me know if you have any other thoughts.

Two of us really like what we saw so far: new food to make (friend is leveling cooking and enjoy trying out new recepies), collecting books again, enjoying much better biomes with your Wild Lands and all that little things that just make game even better. Anyway, thank you a lot.

The latest update has a increased chance to find the Crucible book (includes recipe for forged steel) in the world as well as the possiblity at traders. I have also addded a small chance that brown grasses will drop Wheat when destroyed.
