It wasn't that hard to get the burnt badge

It only took about 30 minutes after Rect sent me to Jen. I looted a farmer's medium armor and put that on to fulfill the armor requirement, then the burnt dudes showed up in force around Jen's place. four headshots later I had that, the time requirement was fulfilled by the time I got to Jen because I spent so much time at the border harvesting wood. I have plenty of shrooms for the burnt smoothie because Rect sent me to the mushroom mining company very early on. There's also a cave behind Rects place full of mushrooms. It was a blast, the first time I've ever been in it. There's an armor crate at the bottom that gave me my extended mag for the 9mm mod.

Found the last mushroom I needed to harvest in the burnt biome just outside of Jen's place. Living off the land really helps with these harvesting requirements.

Mined the nitrate with one smoothie and one cup of coffee and my trusty old level one stone ax that had the bunker buster mod.

Once you get the requirements fulfilled you can go to any trader to get the badge. As soon as you get it take a look at the desert requirements because I had the desert armor requirement filled just by doing something in the burnt biome. I forget what it was now.

Nice. I was wondering if you could use Shrooms found somewhere else. I bet you many think you can only find them in the Burnt Forest.

After you get the badge the Smoothie is pretty much obsolete except for nutritional value. You know the food/water specs of each biome Smoothie? I'm also glad caves are back.

Also nice that you can loot the containers in Jen's base to fulfill the container requirement. For me, the hard part was the nitrate. As for the 20 minutes, I was able to buy 12 mushrooms from Jen, so I added three (?) smoothies.

I REALLY want to like the biome progression system, because I think its cool. However, the implementation of it isn't great. I like that each biome has a danger you have to overcome to survive there, unfortunately, it takes about 20-30 minutes to complete the tasks that completely nullifies those dangers.

I would really like the negative effects of the biomes to be constant; something you have to manage/prepare for. For example, after completing the burnt biome badge, instead of being immune to the biomes effects, maybe have the burnt smoothie last 30 or 60 minutes. Make it something you have to keep planning for.

That sounds rather tedious, especially with the loot stage caps. It's not like any of the smoothies are hard to make (outside of the Wasteland one, since I don't think Radioactive Mushrooms are farmable.)

Honestly, it's so pointlessly easy though that I see no reason to leave it on in subsequent games.

You're right, if it was up to me I'd make it more difficult. It's a survival game, eating and drinking are tedious, but its a staple of the genre..... I feel like surviving the elements should also be.

So, do I go to trader Jen to start the process for getting the burnt forest biome badge?
No. Other than to complete it after finishing the challenges, traders aren't involved. Just open your challenges screen and click on the biome tab to see what you need to do to get the badge.
