Is this a scam? Question for community moderators.

Hi Community Moderators,

I received this message this morning.  Is this a real thing or maybe someone impersonating a mod? There is no identification of the sender other than a claim to be a community mod.

Thoughts and comments welcome

Cheers

Hello JoeSloeMoe. First of all, thanks for your mods.

I am one of the admins on the 7daystodiemods website. You are one of the winning modders in our weekly giveaway. 😊 You can choose a gift worth $50. There are options like Amazon Gift Card, Steam Gift Card, Meta Quest Gift Card, Game Keys, etc. Which one do you prefer?

Important: If we do not receive any response from you within two weeks, your gift will be given to the alternate winner.

Best regards.

Weekly Giveaway – 7 Days to Die Mods

They do hold a weekly giveaway with a $50 prize. That doesn't mean your email is genuine, but it is a clue. Always be skeptical when sharing personal info, but they already have your email. Did you post a mod there? As long as you are not asked to click a weird link, then maybe claim the prize and see what happens.

I just noticed, JoeSloeMoe is actually listed among this week's winners on the page that I linked. Congrats.

Just to be sure: I am assuming you are asking community moderators of the 7daystodiemods website that may be here by chance, right?

I am a community moderator for this forum and I have zero information about who and who isn't admin or moderator on that unrelated website.

You also didn't say where you got the message. Email? This forum? 7daystodiemods?

Did you get a link to follow? If yes, is the link pointing to 7daystodiecom directly or to somewhere else?

Thanks for the replies!

Catdaddy posted: I just noticed, JoeSloeMoe is actually listed among this week's winners on the page that I linked. Congrts.

So really I just needed to do some reading myself to figure that out. Many thanks - I apologise for being a lazy arse (but it was 6am ......)

To answer some of the questions that may explain the context:

>>Just to be sure: I am assuming you are asking community moderators of the 7daystodiemods website that may be here by chance, right?

Pretty much - was trying to understand if this was expected. If a mod responded saying we dont do that, then I would know its fake. Catdaddy was kind enough to set me straight.

>>I am a community moderator for this forum and I have zero information about who and who isn't admin or moderator on that unrelated website.

>>You also didn't say where you got the message. Email? This forum? 7daystodiemods?

I received an email saying that I was messaged from this forum by the mods. When I sign in, the message shows under my 'messages' icon on this site. Its entirely possible that I got confused about which site was providing the 'winner'.

>>Did you get a link to follow? If yes, is the link pointing to 7daystodiecom directly or to somewhere else?

I posted the entirety of the message as viewed in the 'messages' section of my account. There is no link.

On a side note - link or not, the email and message hit all the red flags for an initial spam/phishing contact email. This was the driver behind me posting to determine the authenticity. (e.g. there is no identification of the sender)

Thanks again for the responses and many thanks for the award - much appreciated!!

Cheers

For clarity...

The contest and award are from a totally different place. They are not affiliated with this site or this game. If they messaged you here, it was simply as another user. I can't tell from your comment if you have absorbed that fact.

Yeah, I figured that out, I meant to say "thanks to the person that gave me the award."

I'm not really as stupid as I made myself out to be in this thread (or at least I dont think I am....)

Cheers

And just to add, it is not a scam. They do monthly drawings for modders and stuff. It is legit in my experience as I have won and received codes twice now.
