is there a way to increase electricity range?

I'm trying to connect two fence posts 20 blocks apart but the wire length is to short. I've tried changing the block range on the wire tool but it doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a way to increase the range?

There's no wire object to mod. I think to increase this you'd have to look into modding the dll files.
