Is Russian chat possible?

Hello. I am the owner of the Russian Dedicated Server. In Alpha 17, players do not have the ability to send chat messages in Russian letters. Why is that? Is this planned to be fixed?

At 16 alpha, everything was fine.

I have a great online, but people can not communicate normally: (

In a16 not everything was fine. Cyrillic characters caused back-end issues with API tools and other server interactions. That's likely why they were removed from use in a17.

One thing that you have to keep in mind is that this game is developed in English. Localization for other languages is not going to be developed until it's in the Beta stage when it's closer to complete.

My server has been around for a long time. We started playing as early as 13 alpha. Personally, I play 7 days to die with 5 alpha.

For all the time there were no problems with Cyrillic characters.

In general, the Russian 7 days to die community is very big. To deny their ability to communicate in their native language, I think a strange decision.

upd:

Maybe we will not wait for the beta version. Or it will take a long time. During this time we want to use the game in the same way as in other regions. :)

I played a lot of online games. And in each of these games, it was possible to enter Russian characters into the chat. Even if the language support was not at all.

For writing this post, I used a Google translator. Therefore, I apologize in advance if something sounded incorrectly. :)

The problem that arises is that the characters are not handled correctly in the client system. Anything that is pulling data or working with the interface that uses these characters is not able to read them correctly.

For instance, if you use Cyrillic in your User ID, and join a server with a server manager. Anytime you use an action that puts a call to the database has a chance of corrupting the data and crashing the entire server. (Have had this happen more than once on servers I've managed.)

For just text, sure it was fine. For anything else, it had a large chance to completely crash the entire server. Maybe support for these characters will be returned after experimental, and are just held out temporarily like the FOV change option is. I don't know, and cannot speak for the developers themselves. I can only make a guess based on my own experience.

As a server manager, I use a mod called "server tools". The server is installed on the local machine.

The only problems with the names - they are not displayed in the list of players. But this had no effect on the database.

But it did not cause discomfort. Unlike not being able to write a message :)

Sorry, but I could not translate FOV... Could you explain what this means?

Field of View. How wide an area is displayed. There used to be a slider for it, but it has been disabled in Experimental because larger FOV settings were causing big performance issues.
