What am I doing wrong? I am playing solo, not on a multiplayer server. I finish my level quests and get my level reward. Usually I have the startings of a decent base, only to have to uproot everything and move to the next biome. I like the skill progression , but not a fan of the starter slim biome. I wish the starter biom had bigger cities. I don't mind going to the other biomes to get resources I need. When I have to go 2+km to get to my 2nd trader ( and take my resources and loot, etc) that's a long ways. Especially on bicycle. I wish the starter citiy was a bit bigger. Maybe I'll just go back to a different version. Ok, let the "slamming: commence..
I'll just add to what others have said...
In 1.0, they added trader progression, which included limiting town sizes in the forest biome. However, you aren't required to follow this progression of you don't want. You can edit the biomes after making a map by just opening the biomes.png file in an image editor like MS Paint. Keep the colors exactly the same and just adjust the layout. You can then swap the wasteland and forest biomes or do other edits if you want. Then you just need to edit the spawnpoints.xml file so you spawn in the new forest biome area. It isn't too hard to do. Just be sure to do the edits before you start a save on that map. Changing biomes in an existing game doesn't work well. The only thing to really keep in mind is that Rekt is the trader who starts the open trade routes quests and if you move biomes around without also moving traders, you won't be able to get that first open trade route quest until you go to Rekt. But that isn't really that important.
Alternatively, you can just go to another biome before building a base, though this will be difficult once 2.0 comes out and makes it so you can't easily go to another biome right away.
Yet another option is to open the map on World Editor and make the small forest towns larger, though this is very time consuming.
Last of all, you can do what was mentioned earlier and try Teragon. It requires time and effort to learn how it all works unless you just use an unedited default preset and just change the seed, but it can make some great maps and is not limited to the RWG biome and trader progression stuff.
Btw, I also don't like how they did that. Thankfully, I only do maps with Teragon so it doesn't affect me. But I do think they should make it an option in RWG. After all, RWG is a "random" world generator. You should be able to get towns and traders placed randomly if you want, regardless of any story stuff they plan to add.
