Invisible zombies during horde night

Just had the weirdest horde night ever!

It's Day 36.  I'm level 45 and it's game stage 75. Horde night started normally, but with an abnormally low amount of zombies. After about and hour and a half of game time, they just stopped coming all together. The music kept playing and I could hear them someplace, but none of them attacked my base. With about an hour and 15 minutes of game time left in the Bloodmoon, they started trickling in again, but again a very low number. Afterward, when I was picking up loot bags, I could still hear them somewhere, but none were around. I was even attacked by cop spit twice, but no cops are about. It's like they were invisible or in another dimension.

Attached are some screenshots I took of the log while this was happening. Nothing seems weird apart from that one Index error and that was after the Bloodmoon had ended and right around the time I was attacked by the invisible cop.

Playing vanilla apart from using the Middle Earth map that I downloaded from 7daystodiemods.com

It usually means they have gotten underground or into a part of your base that you don't think of (such as under where you are standing in that image).

If you enabled dm and flew through the terrain and base, I am certain you would find them.

Anytime something like that has happened to me a crawler ended up someplace weird. Situations like this is why I ALWAYS start my supports 2 blocks down. Never start directly on ground level. a couple of crawlers in destroy everything mode can take your whole base down and you won't see them

I was standing in the same spot where I’ve stood on previous horde nights and everything was normal.

The base is built one block down, not on ground level.

On several hordenights I also had no more zombies in the later part of night. Initialy I thought this has anything to do with my low level and getting killed but then it also happened kind of random without dying. Closing the game and restarting did fix the issue.

Outside of hordenights I encountered invisible zombies: You hear them, you go towards the sound to kill, then you get attacked from behind. To me this seems more connected to drawing issues were objects are rendered in too late or too slow so you are running past them before they render in. Nothing indicates they came from underground or another secret place. Note that this also happens often with other objects when traveling faster than just walking.
Possible fix could be upgrading from PS5 to PC but since this is topic is posted in the PC section I don't think that will do the trick ;)

Invisible zeds are a thing, probably. I haven't seen one (tihihi), but they've been complained about for a long time. The reports sound more common in server play.

However the "secret place" in your comment makes it sound you're thinking about intentionally hidden zeds; POI design. Nah, this is just bugs. At the moment the physics are quite glitchy, and a group of zeds will push each other into walls. Once there they may end up crawling within the blocks they're stuck in, and they are able to attack out from the block. Sometimes you'll see glimpses of them as they move around.

The "secret places" leave traces like graves or open spaces in walls and so but was indeed what I refered to.
I'm aware of the "push through block glitch". That is another thing and it can not only happen to zombies but also to your character. Happened often while I was testing the ladder to rockbottom defense against hordes. Sometimes it teleports you back to surface, othre times it just immobilizes you while getting beaten to death.
