It's hard to do without stealth, which I usually don't level up.
No it's not, I do it from the beginning, just as an interactive part of the game.
I'm a bit use to using it as a tactic because of how long I used it, stealth just lets
you get closer.
How to
Start a test game, a small stamp like Nav, or use your game now, all you loose is a rock , put some rocks in your belt.
Unless you have feral sense on, you don't really need to be squatting.
You just need to be out of range where the zombie has locked on to you. "wander mode".
Another technique, see a zombie, move behind a tree, or any object that blocks you from being seen for a few secs cars work too
for dogs if there is enough distance just vault the car, squat for a second or two as you keep moving away then decide if it's fight or
flight time.
Dogs and vultures do not respond to decoys. Others it varies.
Throw the rock or snowball, within 5 to 1 meters to the side, that is the range of that sound bucket. They will begin to follow.
If you want them to change their wander area, then when they get close to where the other rock stopped, throw another one to move
them farther away. Because limited wander area return or patrol area has been adjusted, it takes at least 3 phase to make them change
their pattern.
Stealth, in this game, is sound, movement, light, and ray traced line of sight, and in poi sound triggers aka garbage all over the floor.
Just squatting does not make you invisible, that is the same as imitating an ostrich. Think like this, in the very beginning, you have a
primitive and stone arrows, If you squat from a certain distance and hit a target, you get the bonus multiplier, message. Stealth
with no points. Same distance, rock on.
In a poi, with sleepers, rads ferals, you can use the tactic but it will take practice, and has to be a large poi, because of the tracking timer
and their speed, find creative ways to slow them down, intermittently squat when not in sight that is why I like doing night runs. It's like
playing cat and mouse when using low level equipment.
Light level is naturally low, break the poi lights stay to the shadows, light armor doesn't have squeaky shoes or clanging plates.
I got use to doing this from playing thief, and most games including this one still follows a lot of the same rules.
Ferals and higher level Zs respond at a distance. I mean always have a fallback position. That rule one.
To help with a getaway if needed, put two rows of 3 wooden spikes directly between you and them.
It's not to kill them but it slows them down to let you make a withdrawal.
Don't get me wrong, I like to run and gun and melee for some gratuitous violence, but if you are elevated duck and lob a few stones
close to but away from where you want to go. Don't just always throw for center field, they won't here it, or see it.
Seems like a lot, inconvenient for some, but it is up to each person haw they choose to survive. I use this because I use
sub damage arms and armor, as long as I can, and it breaks up the repetitious, 1 shot kill as soon as possible goal, for me.
