I'm finally starting to thoroughly enjoy the storms

The alarm goes off and you have to find a place to hide and I'm purposefully finding places I've never alluded before. This frequently means I have less than 5 minutes to be in shelter and then once I'm inside I have no idea where to go. It's always fun to explore a place you've never been.

The last time was in the desert and I went to a big city building I've never been inside before and I realized I needed something to eat so I hot hot footed it back to the mini bike and with like 3 minutes left. Barely got inside.

I wound up in the basement surrounded by the newly dead undead by the time it was over.

I find it interesting that players feel confined by storms, they feel they have to sit on their hands for 5 minutes (or whatever) to "be safe", when I find its the exact opposite.

Find a new place to explore, drop into an unfamiliar POI, or just battle the storm zombies for the elevated loot bag drop, etc.

For me, I don't feel confined, and I leave storms on... however, I don't particularly like them. I deal with them, but I don't enjoy them. They can get in the way when I'm trying to do something specific. If I need to cross a long stretch of biome to get to a trader when I'm attempting to open a trade route and a storm is raging when I get to the biome, I'm stuck having to stop what I wanted to do and find something else to do. So I'm not being confined, but I have to do something else, which is annoying. If I'm trying to build a base and a storm starts, I have to stop building it or else limit what I do to just what is inside. This again doesn't really confine me, but it does mess up my plans.

If I'm not doing anything specific, it's not a big deal. I can do a quest during a storm. I can scavenge a POI during a storm. I can mine during a storm. Things like that aren't really affected by a storm and you pretty much just ignore the storm, making it not really important to have anyhow. About the only time the storm offers any "benefit" is if you're fighting storm zombies for increased loot bags. But we already get way too much loot on default settings, so I don't really want to be getting increased loot bags to begin with. So that's not really a benefit for me.

As far as finding somewhere new to explore... I've played this game for a lot of hours. Other than when we get some new POI with a new version, I have done every POI in the game (not counting remnants, which aren't really worth exploring anyhow) many times so it isn't like I'd find something I wasn't already very familiar with.

So although I deal with storms and don't disable them, I don't particularly like them.

I've got them on 50%, and the most of the time I've been caught in one, I just had to duck into a POI for a couple seconds every so often to reset the damage counter.

The one time it was kinda interesting was when I was doing the T4 construction site POI when a storm hit. That POI has very little space that's actually inside, so I had to try and find some indoor areas to reset the storm timer every so often. But that was the first storm I was ever caught in, so I expected it to be worse than it was.

I'd turn them off entirely, if it wasn't for the fact that seeing a storm in another biome looks really awesome.

I've enjoyed the storms ever since they were introduced; for me, the best part is the challenge— being caught off guard by a storm and having to quickly clear an area to take cover, or having to run away because there are too many irradiated or tough zombies that you can’t kill easily, and having to find another POI with the storm raging and the zombies chasing you, trying not to die and to lose them from sight by throwing rocks and hiding.
Along with permadeath, that’s what gets my heart racing and the adrenaline pumping.

Of course, they have their downside—or as I like to say, they have a side that’s a “necessary evil.” Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where it’s just a nuisance—for example, dawn is breaking, you’re getting ready to leave your base, and a storm hits. Obviously, there are other things to do, but that wasn’t what you wanted at that moment. Or maybe you have nothing else to do and all you can do is wait, but as I said, it’s a necessary evil because if the storm weren’t like that, the experiences I mentioned in the first paragraph wouldn’t exist.

It’s like when you break your leg, and you put a splint on it, but you’re surrounded by dangerous zombies and can’t run very far or jump. If there were no consequences and the player could simply bandage their leg and carry on as if nothing happened, it wouldn’t be any fun, in my opinion—even though the debuff might be a nuisance at other times because you have to wait.

I’m currently playing a game in a single biome, the Wasteland, and there you can’t “tank” the storm with bandages and first-aid kits.
Unlike the other biomes, where if you allocate a point to “Living Off the Land” and craft bandages, you can go wherever you want without worrying. This takes away the urgency of seeking shelter (depending on the player’s situation), which is a downside in my opinion.
I usually set the storm frequency to 150%, but I recommend lowering it to 100% because 150% means a storm every day, almost at the same time, which makes it predictable.

I've suggested several times that there should be more options for the storm so everyone can enjoy it in their own way.

I don't find a broken leg or arm to be anything except a nuisance. The vast majority of the time, I don't have a splint or cast in my inventory and it's extremely rare for me to bother crafting one. I'd fight through whatever POI I am in without worrying about it. Fighting with a broken arm or leg isn't a big deal. It affects you, but it isn't anything that really makes fighting harder. However, if I'm stuck walking everywhere because of a broken leg, then it's a nuisance. And I'll usually avoid that as much as possible, either by driving or by standing around doing nothing after I'm back at my base and apply a split or cast. It just gets too annoying if you're walking too far (I hate walking in games and almost always sprint/run and will even choose never to play a game that only lets you walk slowly everywhere).

As far as the storms go, as I said, I don't disable them. But I don't get anything that I'd consider a benefit out of them either... other than them just looking nice in the distance as Vaeliorin said. Extra loot? Not interested. Extra zombies? Not important... I can increase density for that and/or go to more difficult biomes. A challenge? There isn't one... not really. And I've never tanked the storms. Why bother? I either stay in POI, doing whatever, until they end or I mine until they end or I don't go to that biome until they end, which is the most common thing for me.

Well, having a broken leg is a pain, but if there were no penalty, players would jump from any height without consequences. It’s a basic survival mechanic, and whether or not it’s dangerous depends on the settings you’re using and where you are. I’ve lost several games with permadeath because of a broken leg.

I guess you don't like them at all—that's not a bad thing—but technically, they are challenging because you can die from the storm or as a result of the storm. As always, this depends on your settings and where you are. For me, dying means the game is over, so I enjoy that tension.

I hope the devs add more options to customize the storm.

Welcome to the party pal.

I, being an every part of the buffalo person, keep trying to set it so everything
is needed, from the rooter to the tooter. For me there are too many aspects that
just feel like addons. Vs blends or inclusions. For storms it is timing length intensity
variances that make them useful to me in game.

There are actually 20 storms in game. So I kind of understand when it irks people
if they all perform exactly or near exactly the same way. They can either set the mood
and tone, or bury it.
