PC If the Pimps are going to remove heat form the fire

Thank god its a bug. But it IS kind of confusing to us normal players not in the constant forum usage loop.
We can't tell if its a bug or not because its not listed on the "known issues" of either 17 17.1 or 17.2's notes.
The next question, then, is "Has it been reported in the bug thread?"

Right now, "block buffs" (campfire) require standing on/within them to trigger. There's several buff notes implying a block buff overhaul is underway... I'd imagine this includes sexiness like actual buff "range" for blocks. That would solve this problem and open a million or so new possibilities. :)

The next question, then, is "Has it been reported in the bug thread?"
A good question. But I mean, do we really need to create a bug thread to alert TFP to the fact that Campfires don't give off heat?

Bug threads are usually posted to raise awareness to an issue, maybe have some of the public confirm their same issues, have somebody from the Dev team and or their Debug Team check it out, try to reproduce it, then once reproduced call it a bug and not an isolated instance, THEN and only then is it usually considered a known issue..

Just seems silly that we need to create a Bug thread for something 100% of the players are experiencing, and most likely 75% notice RIGHT off the bat.

There is already a bug thread created. No need for a new one. That bug thread is filled with reports of people experiencing things not on the known issues list that they believe is not right with the game. The internal testers then either respond that it is intended that way, or that they will see if they can reproduce and create a ticket.

So if you notice something you believe to be bugged. Post on the already existing thread what you experienced. Whether it seems silly that everyone SHOULD notice it is immaterial. If you look through the bugs and don't see it reported and it hasn't been on the known list for 3 updates then do it.

If that sounds tedious and uninteresting to read the reports and then make one yourself then don't and just wait for someone else to do it.

How is it possible that you think this is a bug? It is clear the mechanics of how campfires warm the character were changed to a different style that makes use of the new insulation system. If there is a bug, the bug is the campfire does not provide enough cold insulation. So this is really not a bug. It is a user request that the campfire cold insulation value be set to a higher number. For all we know, it was set to the current value intentionally. Let's be honest, I don't see a campfire keeping a person warm in that environment when they are completely nude. The current cold insulation value of the campfire is quite substantial already.

Is it intended that we are to be provided a notification icon for the status effect? If so, there may be reason for a bug report. Otherwise, I don't really think one is warranted. The player is temperature protected for quite a long time at the start of the game. If they haven't made clothes or shelter of any kind and continued to stay in the snow area for that extended period, why should they not get cold?

It’s possible because it is unexpected. I never heard any chatter for changing the campfire in this way whereas I did hear chatter about needing to fix AOEs. Why would a placed campfire work like worn clothing? That seems surprising if true. So now I’ve asked the programmers and await the answer.

for those with doubts.... a pic is worth a 1000 words.. i only took out 100 words worth... but this is from a17.3

but yeah... campfire aoe does work and i used the desert as the test because it happens to be where i spawned... :)

Couldn't tell from the screenshot. Is that 17.2 or 17.3 you showed us?
i confirmed it in my post... you posted as i did it... it is a17.3 our current build and the jpg name shows it is a17.3 just no build number.

added an imgur link in spoiler that is not size restricted.

Ah..thank you Joe. I missed that statement in my haste to open the spoiler. Good call!

There's going to be a new perk that let's you make use of the heat from fires. It increases effectiveness with each level and is available starting at level 20.

:applouse:

That is... until you get the perk - fire you will not warm? :D :D :D
Yeah that sounds like the new Perk system to me.

Only they would probably gate it at like level 50 so you cannot get it til after you have good clothing and do not need campfires to stay warm anymore.

so it's fixed ... for the next relese?

Thanks, appreciated.

And Roland, I stopped reporting things in the bug thred. I ws being a good little girl, including pictures, specs, running unmodded etc, but I think every bug I've reported since 14.<x> is still in here and I'm not sure ANY of the bugs I reported or co-reported were acknowledged, so I just kinda ... stopped.

Plus the last time I reported an issue with buffs, XML dude came in and went "oh thanks, I forgot about that!" and we were left wondering if "forget: I need to update descriptions" or "forget: it's a bug" so the confusion just sort of killed the report as a whole. I think it was a bug .. I think it got fixed ... but for the last few years I've generally felt my reports fall on stony ground, so ... what's the point, y'know? I still take screenshots and such in game every time I see something ... I just don't know what to do with them anymore.

A random question, do torches not generate Heatmap anymore?
I think around 17.1 Capp00 did a test and they DO produce heatmap. no idea if that was taken out, but my own current 17.2 game says they still do.
