PC I think a newbie might do that first dig quest and walk away thinking they're all like that and not worth doing.

Put some food and water in the chest. Baked potatoes or cornbread something like that. They're not going to realize how great getting a starter weapon is.

Even when I very rarely do quests; I never do dig quests.

In A21 they were not worth the effort.  Treasure Maps are a little more worth it, but not by much.

I like dig quests. It's more fun to go around whacking Z's upside the head with a baseball bat but sometimes I get tired of that and go do a dig quest

Ye, I don't hate them either.. but their only actual upside is the clay; for the forge or the rare cobble, should I bother to build something.

It was not an edict.  I merely presented why "I don't do them" and asked if I was missing something.

Other players are free to do what they enjoy.  If that is dig quests, that's great...
