I'm sure the bear felt better after he ate me.

 
Bears don't seem to like a face full of steel knuckles..

oh, he doesn't have a face anymore. or a head.

Ok, now he can't eat me, so guess I'll eat him.

My favorite is face tanking them with a stun baton as they can't do anything if you keep the stun going and it's even more fun with the stun repulsor mod to send the bear flying.

 
The key to challenging wildlife in this game is to take a long distance shot for sneak damage, then drastically change your position and attack vector. Use trees, multi-block boulders, rises and falls in the terrain, as well as POI's to break line of sight. Once the poor meat filled creature has lost track of you, rinse and repeat.

Aka: A grizzly solution to a bear of a problem.
