I keep getting: Endofstreameception. Attempted to read past the end of stream.

PC. Steam. Single player.

There seems to be very little data on this error. And its happening 1 by 1 to each of my saves. My understanding is that it makes a game unrecoverable, and the game engine doesn't produce any redundant or back up saves. Is anyone able to help? I cant even get to the point of building a workbench.

Each time it seems to be around day 4 or 5, just when I feel like I'm making progress, and WHAM. Start again due to save file corruption. No actual reason given by the game. I love this game but its making this is unplayable.

Its possibly a mod doing this, but the game gives zero output apart from this ambiguous error, so it could be a server issue for all I know. When I've had mod issues before, I've been able to get in game but there are specific errors which are trackable to a mod file, or I cant load the game and there are again errors showing on specific mod files. So I dont think its a mod, as thats no happening. I play single player, EAC is off, and have played for over a year with no issues until recently. Will my saves has synced with the steam server? Should I try recovering them? The save files say there is no version history on them in AppData.

There has been no issues on exiting the game. Each time, the game exits normally, then the following day, it wont load back up again.

What I have tried:

Restarting game, restarting PC.

Verifying game files through Steam

Backing up save files, running launcher.exe and performing a clean

Deleting Main.ttw and deleting .bak from Main.ttw.bak

Ok, First issue is your CPU.  One sec and I have the details saved here from another post.....

Well crap.  I had it, and now I lost it.  Here is what I have posted in the Tech Support channel of the Discord...

Notes for Intel CPU Users

Resolving Performance on Intel 12th-gen and Newer CPU's

For those of you with the "fancy" Intel 12th-gen and newer CPU's, this can help to prevent Windows from putting the game on the worthless half of your CPU cores.
Take control of your Intel CPU's P-Cores and E-Cores with CoreDirector software
It can probably fix your crappy performance, but not guaranteed if you didn't bother to clean up your system bloatware or follow Excluding the Client from Security Software

Issues with 13th and 14th-gen Intel CPU's.

This Youtube video gives an excellent overview & cause analysis for this problem, if it applies to you. (For anyone running a potentially affected 13th or 14th gen CPU, you'll need to look into applying the microcode update ASAP, or potentially warrantying your CPU if it's too late to update.) Here are a few articles you should note.

Do note that this will likely require some more advanced tweaking of settings in your BIOS, or updating your BIOS. Welcome to the joys of owning a computer. Especially when the manufacturer of your chipset cares more about metrics than the end users.

  • Intel forum post about July 2024 Update on Instability Reports on Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen Desktop Processors.
  • Intel forum post about Additional Warranty Updates on Intel Core 13th/14th Gen Desktop Processors

Also... https://youtu.be/b6vQlvefGxk
Basically if you are experiencing frequent, unexpected game crashes, and you are on one of these CPU's, start an RMA on your chipset because you most likely have CPU cores burning out.

I will note that we have been seeing a large uptick in users with these CPU's having random issues like yours.

Continuing through the log...
I don't really see much of note here except the mods. Some of those would need to have the world created with the mod. If it wasn't, then that would cause issues when you get near areas that would be affected by the mod.

So the intel website says they corrected the issues through updates, my drivers for the CPU are up to date, and I haven't had any performance issues.

As for the mods, they haven't changed in some time. I also haven't explored outside of the local area in the game due to being very early into it.

If you haven't had and crashes with your cpu then you're fine. By crashes I don't mean this error. Intel also said if you had crashes before the bios update to RMA the cpu as permanent damage happens.

As for the error, it's specific to a poi sleeper volume and you have a few mods related to that, so check those out

Hm okay... POI sleeper volumes... Right I have an idea which one it may be then. One of those mods attempts to remove POI triggers which cause empty rooms to spawn in Zombies on a trigger script, which screws up any stealth play and means prep and safety checks such as checking in through windows first, doesnt help. I find the game mechanic very immersion breaking, so the mod attempts to remove it, by triggering all spawns as soon as you enter a POI's radius, and setting all zombie behaviour to sleep. It makes me wonder if the server is having some sort of conflict with that when it tries to save. Which is a bit of a shame, as I'm not sure I want to play the game without it.

I will add that those trigger volumes do not break stealth. They don't ever see you, they spawn in and know of your general location (the trigger point). If you stealth away to say around a corner, they won't know where you are. Stealth still works just fine in those cases, but it makes it to where you just can't stay still and be invisible.
