what is the point of updating the game if im going to lose my saved games everytime????? the would be no point in even playing this game anymore if thats the case.

It doesn't happen every time, only with major updates. These major updates tend to be several months apart.
Also, technically, the game is not yet final. More updates will come in the future.

I understand the game is still not the final product however, if this is gonna happen with major updates, no one is going to want to keep playing this game. Some people worked really hard for the progress they have made.

I understand that. It can be quite frustrating. On PC you can revert to the old version but unfortunately you can't do that on console.

History prooves you wrong. There is people, like me, that started 2013. and i still play, same for my buddies who started with me.

If this was an actual problem for people, this game would be deader as dead by now. I mean we went from A8-A21, then V1 now V2. That´s 15 verions. Every time a new save needed. And yet you keep finding it in the top 50 most played games on steam for years now on a regular basis.

Not everyone enjoys playing until day 500 or more.

If you plan on playing your old save on a old version, DO NOT start the old save with a newer version, that will corrupt the save file. You can roll back to whatever version you want on steam, back to A8.8 if you want.

That doesn’t make any sense my dude. no one will keep wanting to start over that’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard yet! I’ve been playing this game from the jump. How ever as we are on the best version they have had yet. No one should have to start over and over because the devs can’t figure out how to make it work…..

It doesn´t make sense to you. I am bored at day 50 in single player. Nothing can touch me anymore, my horde base is as safe as possible without being an afk base, unless i do something stupid.

I have zero problems with starting over. And the numbers don´t lie my dude. Like i said, that happened 15 times already and yet here we are with decent player numbers.

You did pay in to an EA experience, and the restarting along with patches was advertised and expected. Now, we got the console people buying a "full game" and not being at all accustomed to the idea of game-breaking patches. I don't really blame the console players, even if "they were told", that's just not how the platform is meant to function.

If a PC player is surprised about it, I'll point and laugh in the "gotcha, sucker" -sense, but even there a 1.0 release usually means something...

It's still not a full game, it is still a game under development with 2 more development patches down the road per the roadmap.

You are new to the game, so you are still treating it like any other game that you just play forever. The game is designed to be played in shorter games, starting new games many times. I have playing dozens of games of this. That isn't something I would do in any other game. Restarting isn't a bad thing in this game. It's how the game is designed. Once the story is added to the game, you can expect the story to be completed by probably day 50-70, showing that the design is for many shorter games.

Now, yes.... you can play one game for hundreds of days if you want to. You'll have no more progression since you'd have had the best of everything by around day 20-30, but you can still play as long as you want. There isn't anything wrong with that. But you can also play shorter games and get a lot of enjoyment out of that. And that's how almost everyone plays this game.

In any case, it is almost a guarantee that you will need to start over for 3.0 and again for 4.0. Those should be the only times you'll need to start over after 2.0. And after 4.0, you should never have to start over again. So, at worst, a person new to this game might be forced to start over 3 times (2.0, 3.0, 4.0). I think few people would get too upset after only 3 times, where each is 6-12+ months apart. If they do... well, there isn't anything that can be done about that. It's the reality of playing a game that isn't finished yet.

I know it can be frustrating, especially if console doesn't allow you to stay on an older version. But it is, unfortunately, just the reality of playing a game that is still in development and still has very significant changes being made that are just not compatible with older saves.

You really need to calm down, and stop being so judgemental. I get that players newer to the series don't understand the early access struggle of having so many restarts, but to claim that something is the dumbest thing you ever heard is just ridiculous. It sounds like it isn't your thing, and that is fine. But you are in the minority.

If you look at games like Rust and Ark, these game worlds reset often, and tons of players keep on going back. Server wipes in online games happen all the time, and people keep going back. Some players love the early day grind, when ■■■■ is actually dangerous, other people like feeling as though they are invincible in late game. Honestly for most players, late game is day 50.

Personally i've had 100s of playthroughs, starting with new stats, new playstyles, different difficulties, played with mods, played vanila. And i can't get enough of this game. Starting new worlds is part of the fun for me.

If that isn't for you, i understand, but just because you don't understand something doesn't mean its the dumbest thing ever.

That's untrue. I look forward to starting fresh with every new major update. Currently the game is setup to see how long you can survive. Once you've survived as long as you want to you start over and do it again. It's a different experience each tme.

I don't mind the restarts because overall the majority of the survival factor (and fun) in this game is in the early stages of a playthrough. Eventually that becomes a near non issue because you can stockpile food/water/meds the longer you play (without constantly being mauled).

The facts are these:

3.0 and 4.0 will require restarts and will result in the loss of old saves. Knowing that, you can either learn to embrace starting over or wait to play again until after 4.0 drops. What you just went through is going to happen two more times in the future, guaranteed. Make your choice.

no one will keep wanting to start over
That's the name of this game and a great many others, to be blunt. There's not actually much to do. Prepare for horde night; horde night. Rinse. Repeat. With games like these, you just start over and over and over again, maybe setting up a YOLO run or establishing some kind of challenge for yourself, e.g. using only tools for weapons as GNS is doing now or confining yourself to a particular POI or only allowed to go out at night or what have you. Making up your own rules, in other words.

I've said it before, but it honestly seems to me people who adore this game for whatever reason are enjoying what they put into the game themselves, accompanied only by their own imaginations, more so than the game. Some even create stories of their own to play through. So, that's good. The more the public excercises its own imagination, the more the "creative bankruptcy" plaguing society will be pushed back.
