I can't believe that I'm forced to deal with Rekt

I have been doing things the hard way to avoid Rekt. After this console download, I spent a long time finding the burnt lands so I could find Jen and start the game. Of course I discovered that I can't leave the forest until I get a badge or something.. Now I have to put up with Rekt, I'll turn the volume down.

You can do it without Rekt. The badge isn't hard to get, just check what you need for the smoothies. Those will keep you alive there just fine. If you time it right, Jen will happily pin it on you without you ever talking to rekkers.

i have found he is only half as aggravating with swears turned off. i just toggle it on day one so i can get through him while i am trying to make my way to bob

Yeah, you can turn off at least some of his stuff. And the burnt biome badge is easy to get. No reason to deal with Rekt as long as you can reach Jen after completing the badge and before dying from the biome hazard. Using smoothies would make that possible, of course.

I suspect the main reason Rekt exists is to "encourage" players to leave the Forest biome
Joel was traditionally your initial introduction to traders in Navezgane, at least. Joel I can deal with. Seemed like a good guy if intent on being a Clinat Eastwood impresonator. But I liked Joel...until he was directed to be an inexperienced used car salesman.

Perhaps because I'm not a native English speaker, I don't think Rekt is as bad as everyone says he is. I understand that he's a non-player character (NPC) who just recites his lines. What he says has nothing to do with me as a person. Even if he were a real person, I would laugh at what he says rather than feel insulted.

If you are on PC, there is a mod called "Trader Sonia" on Nexus mods. It replaces Rekt with a female model that uses Jen´s voice lines.

Yeah. I really just ignore everything they all say. It's just a meaningless buzz of sound when I talk to them. Still, I don't like dealing with Rekt.

I admire the immersion you seem to get into when playing the game (all who have a problem with Rect). On the other hand I have the impression that some of you managed to get unusually worked up by an NPC sprouting canned lines! Maybe take a step back and realize that you get flamed by pixels on a screen.

Rekt is my favourite trader even if some of his lines are rather crude humor. The other traders have mostly boring lines, with a few exceptions.

Where I grew up, it was pretty common to run into guys exactly like Rekt. Spend some time around those kinds of people and you'll grow a strong aversion to Rekt, as well.

I like to think that despite his crude and hostile behavior that Rekt would be the first one to save us in a dire situation out of all the traders. Only thing that keeps me from shooting the old coot with the ■■■■ty pipe guns he sells us.

I like him. Yes, he's a cantankerous old cook but he's got food and honey and ammo. What else does the lone Survivor need in the apocalyptic wasteland?

Mine too. I think the crude humor is the defining feature of him. I get that some may not like it, but I personally find it amusing. I never thought I would see a day where people got upset at swear words in a video game.

It gets tiresome, and this is coming from a guy whose goto expletive is "Cunting ■■■■ing ■■■■!".
Granted even Jen hitting on you and going on about playing Dr gets old after a while.
I mean it could be worse, at least no one took an arrow to the knee.

It got old very quickly. Didn´t bother me when he got added. Now he is just an annoyance, like that one guy in your social circle that only has that one joke or story, it´s funny twice and after that you just want him to shut up. Especially in overhaul mods where we want to live at the trader.

I think for most people it has nothing to do with swearing. For that matter, you can turn that off if you really wanted to. He's just an annoying person to listen to if you are paying attention to him. And since they force you to start with him (if using RWG maps or pregen maps or Navesgane), avoiding him entirely isn't an option for a lot of people who aren't able to handle going to the next biome to start the game and still want to do quests while having biome hazards enabled. If he was in any other biome, it wouldn't be so bad. You could do the Open Trade Routes quest to him one time and then avoid him for the rest of the game. With him in the forest, if you want to do quests and you don't want to try and unlock the burnt forest immediately (or aren't able to because you're new to the game), you can't avoid him.

Now, for those who don't want him in your game, you can still play the game without him. Even with an RWG map, it's easy to do. After generating your map and before you start a new game on it, open your map folder and edit prefabs.xml. Replace all instances of trader_rekt with whichever trader(s) you want (use Find in Notepad/Notepad++). So, if you want Jen, change trader_rekt to trader_jen. Jen is probably the best option if you want to do the Open Trade Route quests. Make no other changes and then start your game. You will not have Rekt in the game and can play the game normally. There is only one issue you'll have... you can't take the first Open Trade Route quest (Rekt to Jen). After you've completed tier 2, you should get the one from Jen to Bob if you're at Jen. Note that this seems to be a bit buggy at times and I've had it skip Jen, making it start at the Bob to Hugh one after tier 3 instead, so it may not be perfect. But other than that Open Trade Route set of quests, everything else works normally even if you remove Rekt from your game.
