How to get started making YT vids?

Let's pretend for a second that i wanted to make videos for Youtube around 7 Days (though, i suppose i could do it with any game), and while i'm no stranger to tech...I don't know much about making quality videos of this nature.

In lieu of using Google, I wanted to ask the folks in the community about what they use specifically with regards to video recording, editing, and so on. I prefer to know what people are actually using, and can recommend based on their experience. Presume that I'm doing this using free tools (or, low cost ones) because it's hard to justify spending a ton of money on something that no one might watch. <_<

Come at this from the perspective that some detail is necessary, but not a complete tutorial. Treat it as someone new to the process.

Let me know what you think, or even suggest content, and I might actually put something together. :)

Uhh well, I can say OBS is golden for recording. You can download it and be recording in minutes. Wondershare Filmora is relatively cheap and I think has a free version (and novice friendly). OBS is free and open-source.

The only Youtube I do is for funny-videos randomly or learning stuff. But I have watched randomly some "Ser Winter" and "WarOwl". One does Rust and random stuff and the other does CS and stuff, but both have HQ editing and production. Can't reccomend much really, I barely watched those two lol. If educational videos could give you ideas let me know lol!

 
I use Filmora. As said Jugginator, it's very easy and "relatively cheap" (but not free : the free version embeds a filigree "filmora" which makes the videos not presentable). It's good to make videos very quickly, transitions are fine, titles too. And, you can post-synchronise very easily the videos.

Downloading OBS at the moment ^^.

The settings are a bit vague, but it works well just recording. I use it to record meetings and such a lot. To capture the game you set it to capture a window (you can choose a game directly) or set it to record a particular monitor. I'll come back tomorrow sometime with a guide. But yeah there's no real video editing on it. You can do scenes and stuff, but I'm not sure how to do it. Ill find a guide anyway lol

 
As far as I know both Nvidia and AMD GPUs come with recording software that supports hardware encoding in h.264 (and maybe h.265). I use "AMD Relive" that comes with the GPU driver. It requires minimal configuration and does a good job as far as I can tell. I have also worked with "ShareX", which is also open source and free (like pretty much everything I use) and can also be downloaded directly from Steam for easy installation.

For editing, I use "OpenShot Video Editor" and if I want to do some Audio effects, background music and the likes, "Audacity". Background music to legally use (at least non-commercial) can be found en-masse at http://www.openmusicarchive.org/ and http://freemusicarchive.org/curator/Creative_Commons/

There are plenty of open-source and free options available to get creative work done, like the already mentioned OBS :)

OBS and Filmora ($60 one time for a lifetime subscription to the services) I used to use YT for my Twitch highlights and now have started a 7DTD Let's Play.

I'm enjoying it, it's fun to record and edit imo.

@Sawth77 It's pretty simple to use OBS to record your gameplay and then upload that video to the editing program of your choice. I use Filmora. Easy to use and user friendly.

Thanks :02.47-tranquillity: . I tested it but I'm looking for a tool like Filmora. I don't think I need OBS with the Ge Force Experience recorder that seems enough good for what I need. But for video montage, Filmora is a little light, so I'm looking at Shotcut and OpenShot Video. The thing is that with Filmora, post synchronisation is very easy, I'm not sure it's the case for the others.

You're welcome :) I use OBS because I stream and it's super easy for me to just click "Start Recording" instead of "Start Streaming" when I'm making a YT vid haha.

 
Appreciate the feedback and suggestions, watching the thread to see what else pops up. I do have the GeForce Experience on the computer but i've never used it...or any other recorder, for that matter. I'll look into it, and the other suggestions so far, and see how i like it (if i decide to do some recording, still a be apprehensive about it to a degree).

Mainly, what i'd be shooting for are shorter (read: 10-15 minutes), simpler videos, such as "How to" videos, simple tips and tricks, and so forth. What's been suggested so far seems like it would fit the bill with that in mind. :)

Yes very nice you can watch a porn movie on screen 3, have the desktop on screen 2 and stream screen 1 :tickled_pink:
