How to change auto-alerted sleepers?

Hi, as someone who loves to play stealth, I hate it when just setting foot into some areas alerts every sleeper in the group that I'm there, regardless of my stealth level. I've looked for mods to help with this and found nothing. I'm willing to dig into the files myself, but I don't know what to look for. Can anyone give me a starting place, or point me at something that already exists, if it does?

It's not all sleepers! Only some. Certain rooms or areas in certain POIs. And these ones always know exactly where I am - the only way to use stealth with them is to activate them, run away until they lose me, and then come back. I'm talking with max stealth and in armor that doesn't make any noise, at night, etc. they still do this. It's consistent - always happens in the same POIs (mostly newer default ones and but also a few custom ones from the compopack) with the same areas/rooms/sleeper volumes, in different games.
