My thoughts after 2800 hrs want my loot back from zombies books su3k have to grind up level 20 for a forge level 40 cement give me a break cant even find them in houses anymore. Killing zombies is all your are suppose to do now taken away the loot was whos idea. Do like the houses and quests but after going thru a few it loses the appeal and what is with the 7 day hordes they just stop before dawn AND I MISS MY LOOTING!!!!!!!!!!

After playing a bit more I'm finding there are too many wolves. This is a zombie game, and over half of my trader quest to fetch/clear have been swarming with wolves and dire wolves. I'm talking 3 dire wolves in one house at one time. Granted I am playing on Warrior. Is that the issue?

PS: Granted I have an overflow of meat. Nearing three stacks on day 12.

I like the new visuals though there isn't enough difference to offset the bad with the bad being:

-excessively harsh stamina drain (as someone who is ex forces who frequently hikes 20+ miles on ONE MEAL, I find that having to micromanage my character with food and drink in excessive amounts JUST to be able to move around and hit stuff to be beyond tedious).

- I really enjoyed finding bits of guns and having to assemble them & combine them in order to bed/borrow/steal the best weapon I could to be a really fun aspect of the game. When I discovered that this had been removed, I was more than a little disappointed.

- The apparent obsession with sticking everything behind perks & level requirements. I was able to boil a £$%^ing egg at 8 years old. You have to be REALLY pedantic to stick something like that behind a "skill" ffs. To my mind, this is one of those stupid software design mistakes that should have evoked a "no, we're not doing that. Don't be an idiot" response from management. Far more fun: recipes (either as drops / books in libraries / bookshelves or vendor items. Hell, people in the real world do really well GUESSING recipes for pitys sake...

- Vehicle controls (esp gyrocopter). Please, for the love of God, let me volunteer to work on the gyrocopter flight system. As a pilot of nearly 30 years, let me tell you that gyrocopters really, REALLY don't fly that badly. They are in fact rather nimble / agile and fun....everything that the 7DTD gyro isn't, basically.

- The developers should ask themselves a couple of really basic questions. Like: on a scale of 1 to 10 how unbelievably pissed off would a lumberjack be if he/she had to stop every 10 seconds whilst chopping down a tree. THEN ask themselves: do people REALLY want to have to do that in their recreation time?! The game was grindy enough BEFORE A17 hit...now its just as grindy...but forces significant - boring - periods of waiting on its players. The same is true for all harvesting / collection.

The A17 update dropped for me late last night, after I'd been away for most of the day doing christmas shopping. So the "fun pimps" Christmas present to me was to take away a game that I rather enjoyed and replace it with something that just isn't fun; effectively making them the killjoy pimps.

I've played A17 for only a day and I dread to think what the earlier experimental versions were like. As things stand, I don't find it fun and will find something else to play for a few months and check back then to see if things have improved any. I know some people like the new version, but to me it's simply tedious, irritating, frustrating, restrictive beyond reason and very, very grindy. Yes, in the real world we have "challenges" but for most of us, we don't WANT our recreation time to be such a ball-ache.

My brother and I took down no less than a dozen bears in one house the other day, and we determined that it was the result of playing on a game/map started in a previous version. Might want to restart. That's not normal.

I was getting something similar when playing a b231/b238 build with the b240 update. Most of the sleepers were spawning in as wolves. A fresh start fixed it.

Playing b240 I like the new game mechanics, perks, leveling, etc. The only real gripe I have is the random gen, it feels like a step back from A16. It seems like instead having pretty defined cities/towns like in A16 there are just weird clusters of buildings in A17.

Well on day 6 on stable and I think I am done. So many things were just too annoying to bother with.

* The temperature system is probably the most annoying of all. Spawn in the middle of a desert, snow and wasteland. Thought I can work with this. Looted till I had all the appropriate clothing for each biome but still overheated/frozen. Somehow being overheated reduces how lucky I am with loot in the skill tree. Reduction of skill based on physical limitation randomly is just not well thought out. Want to reduce my stamina (If even possible) fine, but reducing skill trees that have nothing to do with the ailment doesn't make sense.

* Second most annoying - So I can now design and build a forge, smelt the metal, and finally craft the iron. Somehow after that my character can't figure out to make a axe and pick? Seriously?

Best of luck to everyone, I know a lot of people are happy with the changes and I am honestly glad to see that. Guessing I am part of the minority now. Merry Christmas everyone!

You broke my favorite game. I am very sad. You catered to the console people and changed up all of these things - it is horrible. HORRIBLE.

Please tell me how to get the last version back on my computer so I can play it again? PLEASE, I beg you.

- - - Updated - - -

Agreed with FatChance and others.... I'm done and good luck to everyone.

I hate the new version. I took me only one day and part of an evening play time to get to this point. Waaaaay to many things that are changed that I'm no longer having fun anymore.

I played over 2900 hours in this game. SO SAD NOW.

I REVERTED BACK TO THE PRIOR VERSION AND WON'T GO TO THE NEW ONE UNTIL IT ISN'T A CONSOLE GAME. Y'ALL **** THE POOCH ON THIS ONE. WHAT GIVES WITH HAVING TO CLICK ON THE ITEM AND THEN HIT A KEY TO PUT IT IN MY INVENTORY??? AND THE GRAPHICS ARE WORSE THAN BEFORE.

PIMPIN' OUT TO THE GAMEPAD/CONTROLLER PLAYERS A BIIIIIITTTTT TOO MUCH. PC PLAYERS WILL NOW SUFFER, ALL IN THE NAME OF MAKING MONEY. SO SAD. VERY SAD.

I've got 1876 hours in this game and I will no longer play it. The things you have done have ruined it for me. There are some good things I see but by and large this is the worst version I've ever seen.

1) The game looks FAR worse to me now than A16. I like the tree distances, that's beautiful, but everything else now looks cartoonish and simple. The bushes and trees up close look like they've been hand sketched whereas in a16 I was STUNNED by the look of everything up close. And yes, I've got the gear to run this game on full high settings @ 4k resolution and it LOOKS BAD. The sky is another part that caught me right away. It now looks more like they sky was animated separately from the rest of the world and doesn't belong. Don't even get me talking about the wind in the trees and bushes or character animations. When the first player came into view and started chopping down a tree I thought I was watching a spastic monkey.

2) The controls are clunky now. Having to drag everything to a toolbar, off a toolbar, from a bag, into a bag - IT'S NUTS! I want my 1-click moves back and why did they go in the first place? The tabs are annoying as hell. Before I had all my relevant character data in one easy to get too location. Now I have to switch between tabs to find out whether I'm hot, cold, hungry thirsty and btw what's my armor stats oh and gotta go back to the other one to switch gear. TABS SUCK! This is another area of the game where the first thing that entered my mind was CONSOLE CONTROLS!

3) Crafting/Leveling are no longer intuitive and the restrictions are DUMB! You want to gate some of the higher level items to make people work for stuff but put the simplest things (FORGE) out of reach right from the start. Having had access to build those pieces did not mean you instantly had access to all the good stuff before so why do this now? Forcing the simple things to be ground out makes the game unattractive and not fun. While working for stuff is always good, being forced to work for stupidity is not.

4) Looting. WTF? I can't say much more. Love being able to recover arrows. Hate the fact that all zombies no longer carry anything.

5) Stealth. So you want to overhaul stealth and that's probably a good idea but this new system needs major addressing. It's ambiguous, you can't tell if you're hidden or not and by and large is meaningless in all but the darkest of locations. I get the idea that stealth needs to be balanced but it needs to be intuitive and understandable too and this new thing is definitely not that.

That's the top 5 things I can think of right off the top of my head and I played this version for an hour. I hate it. I hate most everything about it although I do see there are some good things there. In general I feel like it has become another game hijacked by the Console Performance crowd. The visuals, controls, abilities and systems have all been overhauled and designed for console players and it has taken away almost everything I loved about this game.

Is there any way I can get the last stable version of Alpha 16?

Jesus, some of you have serious issues with change lol
Until this version I've supported and made that same argument numerous times. However, when a game is overhauled and even the most basic things that have been around for 5+ years have been changed that's a different story. This isn't change. This is a new game.

Yes, you can choose 16.4 from the betas drop down list.

btw, you CAN still shift click from hotbar to bag etc, that did not change at all. Not sure what you're ranting about with that bit.

When a fun game changes to being not fun, yeah, I have issues with it. Now, I'll await the obligatory being called a whiner and being told that I'm complaining that the game is too hard for me.

Remember, a lot of these people are only just now getting a17. So we're going to get the same round of complaints as last time.

... Which speaks to their validity by the way.

This. The game I bought at A16 while sharing some characteristics as this one is pretty much not there. A17 has turned this title into a tower defense FPS game. While a lot of the exploring and going through dungeons are there to do, this game's 'kill zombies and get perks' system doesn't really give much incentive to explore the massive, POI filled maps. Of course this is purely my opinion and if this new 'game' is what TFP was originally going for then I'm okay with it. As long as myself and like minded players still have access to A16. I love the new POIs and the trees and a lot of the eye candy in this new game, but the new skill system is burnt beans.

Well, TFP wanted a challenging survival game with a leaning toward combat and A17 fits the bill. That is why they say they are almost ready for Beta.

I think serious content for the game will come as DLC's, maybe with a small price (Under $10, depending on DLC size).

As to what I think about A17:

-Overall a better, scarier and more dangerous game than A16.

-You can beat the normal zombies easily in the open. But inside "Death Trap POI's" or large numbers of fast moving zombies, you have to think.

-Content for the game is lacking as the current nonsensical quest system is hopefully, a place holder for the real one.

Well, that's an Alpha game for you. Things will change. WHen you came in, they broke a ton of things. Tower defense is actually in the description in the store. It just so happens they broke the aspects that enabled a tower defense game. Like it or not, not everyone likes the same thing, and the devs wanted to create a difficult survival, tower defense crafting game with a destructable world which you need to survive the zombie hordes. A16 had... the crafting game and destructable world down and accidently broke the rest of the aspects. Becoming an OP god quickly defeats the vision of the difficulty survival part, and makes zombies/tower defense irrevalent. So, yes they should be hard to get. It is what it is.

It is a fresh world made in Alpha 17, sadly.

I actually have a snapshot I took of a small Garage building I cleared. 2 Dire wolves and 3 wolves. Along with two sleepers.

All in one little itty bitty garage lol.

Maybe a Restart would fix? But i'm just now about to get level 40 and don't want to start all over juuust yet.

Another concern of mine is the looting. Not that I don't mind the new system, but maybe program the bags to sit longer before despawning. I'll have loot drop during horde nights but they are gone by the time its safe enough to loot them. I cry thinking about all the neat stuff I probably missed out on.

Also I don't really understand the new way vehicles are made. Do they all now share the same default speed and only the durability is effected by intellect? Is there a way to make the minibike faster? Maybe I'm just missing something....

Is there zero chance you'd lower the difficulty to make melee'ing the zombies easier? It really does help me out when I'm not in the mood for slow killing of zombies.

I already have it on the easiest setting. Single zombies or even two are usually not the problem, its when I get swarmed or stunned. Seems like the number of zombies has increased. I guess there are settings to lower the numbers, maybe ill try that....dont want to make it too boring though.
