How can I force a start in the wasteland?

What xml files or whatever, do I need to edit to force a start in the wasteland?
Create map with Wasteland centered in game settings! Then go Win+R (type dot and press enter) > go to AppData > Roaming > 7DaysToDie > Generated worlds > Name of ur world > edit biome "thing" top left corner! Then open it with 3d Paint > copy colour of Wasteland and colour entire map of it! In modern game versions u force spawn in forest biome

To just change the possible spawn points, there's a spawnpoints.xml under the GeneratedWorlds /<WorldName> folder. I haven't messed with those recently, but I think they should work.

(Take a backup of the file first, just copy paste)
Editing in new coordinates, and removing most others should work.
<spawnpoints>
<spawnpoint position="-727,44.36251,-1201" rotation="0,129,0"/>
</spawnpoints>

Three numbers, the middle one is "height", make it too small and you should be buried, but will be "auto-resolved" to surface. Make it too high and you'll fall into a start with a broken leg, or dead.

First number is "East", bigger the number, the more east. Zero in the middle of the map. Last one is "North", same deal.

To add to these, you can spawn, in a POI. The middle ## is elevation. So if you want to start
off in a really ragged situation, Make a map. Delete or block comment all except one spawn
point to use for syntax. Open console with F1 type DM find a poi with a clear spot, hit f3, copy
the coordinates, and you will spawn in at that spot. Example spawn in the bell tower steeple,
or a clear room near the top of the bank. To give variety, I make 10 spawn points.

How detailed is your choice.

The elevation really doesn't matter anymore unless your spawn point is in a location with multiple levels/floors, such as in a POI. You can leave it at 0 and you'll always spawn on the ground if you aren't in a POI or using a mod that has caves or something. You won't see it change from underground to surface.

You can leave it at 0
I mostly described it for completeness; given that leaving it alone and editing just the location might lead into drop starts. Or has that changed? I guess it might be useful to find ground in case someone is trolling and digging out spawn locations on a server ... :)

a few years back the very first time I did what the OP was trying to do I spawned at the tippy top of a tree. like literally standing on the highest point and had no other option (without using cheats) than to fall and break my leg. NOW that is a hard start in the wasteland!

glad they fixed the elevation lol

I'm almost positive you can't drop from the sky if it's set too high anymore. I think I tested it a while back, but I'm not sure now. It would have been probably around 1.0 that I tested it.

I'm not entirely sure how it works if there happens to be a tree at a spawn point. That's not something easily tested other than to start a save and find a tree and get the coordinates and then have someone join with only that one spawn point. It's not so much that it's hard to test, but it's a hassle to do. The chances of a tree being there is pretty low, though. At least, in all my games, I think it happened once, and that was back in A20, I believe.
