Horde base defense in tiered POI's for tier progression.

When I started my random gen v2.0+ world I established my main base outside Trader Rekt's like my v1.0+ and other previous worlds. My goal was to rush through through the tiers, and base build along the way.

After turning in the opening trade routes mission to complete tier 1 missions and move onto tier 2, I never visited the burnt forest or took quests from trader Jen at all. Why? Not only have I spend time and resources into establishing myself next to trader Rekt up to that point, but in order to advance to the next tier, I don't need to fulfill any quests from Jen because Rekt can offer the quests for the tier that I'm currently on, and, despite their small size, tier 2-4 POIs are not far away enough from the small, randomly generated towns where I am to justify having to move my entire base to a more convenient location or make an outpost.

It feels overpowered to be able to keep tiering up when I'm still in the forest biome but at the same time I need a permanent place to store my items, keep my workstations running, and defend against the blood moon horde. Visiting another trader, and a whole different biome should be exciting but its not. I believe you should be questing for that trader to advance to the next tier. It doesn't seem right that I can go back to the safety of the forest biome, and my main base all the way to tier 6.

That's when I came up with this idea.

A new tier completion quest will be added before opening trade routes. Survive a horde night in a POI of the teir you are in. So if I was in the burnt forest working for Jen (tier 2), I'd have to hold off a blood moon horde in a Tier 2, burnt forest POI of my choice before moving on to trader Bob. The only reason why I don't like this idea is the case of dying during the mission or some other case where you are outside the POI bounds by the time the blood moon starts. You're stuck on this final step to complete the tier you are on but have to wait another 7 days for another chance to advance to the next tier (that is, if you are running with the default settings). You can't make progress until then besides personal leveling, and resource gathering. Its a waste of time if you care about progressing to the next tier.

There is another issue also. Unless you know beforehand that the final mission of a tier is to defend a blood moon horde in a POI of your tier, you are going to be starting from scratch with claiming and fortifying it. Its almost like, another mission should be added so that you clear, and claim a POI with a land claim block right after the opening trade routes mission is done to set up a POI blood moon horde defense later while you are completing the tier.

If this seems too much to be part of tier progression maybe it could be a part of the biome challenge line?

I feel like I'm onto something with solving my problem but am thinking inside the box too much.

That would work as a mod, but not everyone wants to do horde nights in POI. Forcing people to do 4 horde nights in POIs in order to do an open trade routes quest for each trader is not a good option for vanilla. Those quests aren't really a big deal anyhow. They are there to try to get people to consider going to other biomes. But you can ignore them and not lose out on much since the rewards aren't really anything special. But you still don't want to lock them behind a forced way of doing horde nights.

I like your spirit friend, and even though moving biomes each tier is how i play, i think there would be a lot of community backlash.

Perhaps in the big options update a toggle to make quests only count if they are done in a minimum biome tier for the quest? Tier 2 must be done in burnt forest or above, tier 3 in the desert or above etc. Or just leave it as a personal challenge, no need to force everyone to play a certain way.

I think it would be great for the challenges to be a bit more challenging (per this suggestion) rather than the tedium of Kill # or Collect #....
