PC Having problem with heavy metal skill in coop

I recently unlocked heavy metal level 5 in a coop game, the skill is great and was working as intended for the first evening. We continued our game a couple of days after and while clearing a POI I stunned my friend with my sledgehammer. And he got red console message.Since then every time I hit him with the sledgehammer he is stunned.

I created another game to test the issue, it is still present in the other save.

Was curious to know if anybody ran into an issue like this one. I looked in the known issues and saw nothing about this.

Both game have been re installed for a17 stable and it is a fresh save.
