Having Problem with Desert Biome Progression Tasks

Running V2.2. Trying to complete the desert biome progression tasks. There is one that asks you to kill 5 plague spitters and 10 other (non plague spitters ) while standing in the desert. I killed the 5 plague spitters . I keep killing other zombies but they are not being credited to the 10. Are only certain kinds of zombies credited to the 10 ? Thanks
 
I play PS5 and just did this 2 days ago. Here's what I did and it worked just fine. This may not help but hopefully it will.

#1: Craft some smoothies from your person, not a crafting station. Use em even if you don't think you'll need em. I had the buff the whole time.
#2: Make sure you and any Zombie "non-animal" are standing in the desert both when attacking and when it dies, never cross the border.
#3: I killed all but 1 with a bow, the 1 I used a spear. I doubt the weapon matters tho.
#4: Dont kill Z's while standing in bob's safe area. I think its Bob the trader???
 
The way I did it was by clearing a POI that is definitely in the desert. I was protected from the heat and all of the sleepers in the house counted.
 
No, the other zombies should give credit for killing any zombies in the desert.

You may be experiencing a bug that doesn't effect everyone. I swear I remember seeing something like this elsewhere. I just don't remember where.
 
Any zombie in the desert has always counted for me. Buzzards, coyotes, snakes, pumas will not count.

You must be in the desert when you do it, you can't shoot them from the forest biome
