PC Having a seed mapped out versus going in blind ?

Hello fellow survivors, just curious as to how everyone likes to play ! I know YouTubers such as Crackpot, map seeds out and upload them which is so helpful when you want to have a starting point to head to, but sometimes I feel like that kills the exploration of the game. When I get bored and am in between updates (like now) I like to just think up random seed names and spend an hour or 2 exploring. If I like the seed, I'll keep going, but if I feel it's a bad one I'll quit and try again. Found some pretty good ones that way, but have also run into a good bit of frustrations with not finding anything to loot or being stuck out exploring with no where for shelter.

What do you guys prefer ? Using seeds that people like Crackpot map out in advance, or trying a random seed and doing it yourself ?

 
I’ve been using seed names that I have some type of personal connection to for my random gen worlds. My first time I fired up creative and drove around a little bit to see if I would enjoy the seed. Now I just go in blind and see what happens.

 
I don't have any luck when it comes to seeds for console. I would say give or take some that 70% of the seeds I tried are nothing but water. 20% with hardly any towns. 8% decent ones and about 3% good ones. I don't look up YouTube videos for seeds but I do look at what people have come up with in the seed thread and give most of those a go. With that said because I don't have good luck with seeds when I try one I don't want to spend hours and hours or even days before I say no I hate this seed. So I normally jump in creative when testing some seeds and drive around to see if I'm going to want to spend time on it or not. I just drive main roads so I can see if it is a water seed or not and if i hit any towns and what the biomes are like. I don't drive any dirt roads. It takes a little out of surprises and that sucks but I prefer that then spend who knows how long on something and it turns out garbage.

When I play PC I use the map previewer just to let it load and see if it is a bunch of water or not then go back and start if I like it. I don't study it or anything just to take a fast look and back out. I don't know if console will ever get some kind of previewer but if it ever does it would help loads. As it takes a good 3 to 5 hours sometimes driving the roads lol.

I made a request for Clare to ask if they could look at the percentage of the rwg mixer and maybe make some adjustments to it because console is a smaller map then PC and we could use all the space we can. I have played with the rwg mixer settings on PC and if done right it turns out pretty good. So maybe they will take that in and consider looking at it. If they would change that then I might not have to go look at seeds in creative if console doesn't get a map previewer.

 
I don't like trying random seeds. I'll sometimes try one in creative and create a bike to drive around. But I rarely have luck.

I much prefer to use a seed that's been tried before. On that note, I have an Imgur album which has a bunch of maps I made from crackpot's videos. You might like these.

I like random gen maps. I use porn star names for my map names because its practically an endless supply of new names and it will be funny if one of them ever turns out to be one of those great maps with a dozen towns or something.
