Have to buy 7 days to die again?

So I bought the original 7 days to die way back when, not too long after the original release. Am I going to have to buy the game again in order to play the updated version? I just found out about it coming back and was wondering why the original players have to buy an updated version of the game they loved.

 
sorry friend...it is true. the game was released as a new game under TFP's banner. It has been 35% off for like 5-6 weeks...if you missed that sale...easter is coming it probably is on sale again or will be soon. 

 
The version you purchased was developed by Iron Galaxy, and published as a finished game by TellTale Games. That fact that they released it as finished, locked the game into Alpha 14.7, and prevented it from getting updates to match the PC version afterwards.

Not to mention the whole fiasco of TellTale going bankrupt. All of the information regarding this is already in News & Announcements.

The current version is being released by TFP. After they have spent tens of millions of dollars getting the rights to the original console assets, and hiring a new company to work on the console port.

To put it simply, it is a different game by a different publisher. There was absolutely no way to update TellTale's version.
