Flying the gyro is much easier with an Xbox controller. I have tried using the keyboard and it is such an unnatural contortion of my hand that I cannot stand it.
I prefer a hybrid approach. For driving, flying and fighting I use a controller. For interacting with inventory I fall back to keyboard and mouse.
