PC Get rid of above ground ore and add a metal detector

Mining essentially controls your game (can't make most things without it - including ammo, etc.). So let's at least make it exciting to try and find it :-(

It is quite easy to mod this in several ways.

For the vanilla game it's just not doable because many players did not figure out how prospecting worked, even when the mining journal flat out described how it worked.

 
Better make sure the recipe for the detector only uses iron then. ;-)

I don't know what else it would be made out of.

If it was made out of lead, you wouldn't need a giant magnet... just a blindfold, a hole, and a direction.

But how to make a giant magnet?

 
Only, and Only if a player wants to use the tool as a novelty, but not a necessity. Otherwise, hell no, I carry enough crap around lol.

 
I prefer the current system, keeps the game more about killing zombies than digging in the dirt.

I like digging in the dirt and still like how it is now because I dont like looking at the dirt for a lot of time before digging.

Too many players only like the FPS part of the game and they are impatient.

For my part, I never had any trouble finding the resources I was looking for. Just dig a hole somewhere and search the surrounding area. You can use many techniques from Minecraft to search a larger area in a short time. And even if it took me some time to find something, I had no problems with it. In any case you collect a lot of stone which you can always use when building large bases.

 
Several players saying its the combat oriented players who like the new shown ores. I love mining and I totally love the new ores. I like to mine, not to look at the ground deciding what the ambiguos textures mean.

 
Add crafting metal detectors to the motherload perk and make the first one you level a Y stick that you carry around to help point at stuff?

I just wanted to point out ore nodes look cheesy as hell and mining has 0 challenge.
