Windows ðŸ“¢ Game Saves - Steam Cloud | Update Idea 💡

👋Hey,

I would like to suggest adding Steam Cloud support for saving in-game worlds in 7 Days to Die.

I think this would be a very useful feature for players, because currently world saves are stored locally on the computer, which means they are lost if someone reinstalls Windows or buys a new PC. This can result in losing a lot of progress and time invested in the game.

It would be a great improvement if world saves could be automatically synced with Steam Cloud in a future update, so players would not need to manually back up their save files.

I have looked into this carefully and found information suggesting that world saves are currently not stored in Steam Cloud. However, if I am mistaken and Steam Cloud already does support saving worlds automatically, please let me know.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I am not quite sure about Steam cloud storage. If the development team funds the purchase of servers for storage, it will not be possible. If Steam provides it for free, it can be used as a reference. Because the storage data of 7DTD is very large, the server storage and bandwidth required are unimaginable

@Malloy
7 Days to Die saves are too large for Steam cloud, or else it would already exist.
You can make a copy of the save folder and paste it to the new PC or Windows install.

Thanks for the information. I'm currently doing this, but regardless, I think some kind of solution for saves would be useful, because there are probably players who aren't aware of this and could easily waste a lot of time doing it.

What you write is entirely valid, but if the developers would spend a little more time on this to come up with some kind of solution, of course if it's worth the "tiredness", then it would be useful.

I'm not a dev on steam, but I don't think this is technically true from what I've read. There is a storage limit per game title of up to 93GB. There is a file size upload limit of at least 256MB, but that's per file. 7dtd saves are many smaller files. So, technically, I don't see that the saves are too big. Would cloud storage be a good user experience? No. My current "save" is almost 1GB between the save and generated world. I certainly would not want to wait for that to sync every time I played.

What I'd like to see is for some save file management be added to the game. Currently there is a button to "Manage Saves", but the only option there is to delete data. They should add options to backup, copy, rename etc.

Those are things any PC owners can already choose to do if they want to.
I guess it could help a few people, but again, why didn't TFP add this if it's so simple? I'm sure it's on the Steam side of things.
