Game launcher crashes after 20.1B6 update

ElCabong

I can't find a log file. I run the launcher, it crashes, then I run the 7DaysToDie.exe right out of the Steam directory.

Just played for a few hours, no problems.

Windows 10.

When does the game crash?

If it crashes while loading up, it should be generating a log in your main 7D2D folder (see locations below)

The logs typically reside in these locations:

  • Windows client

    <gamefolder>/7DaysToDie_Data/output_log.txt

[*]Windows client as dedicated started through startdedicated.bat

  • <gamefolder>/7DaysToDie_Data/output_log__<DATETIME>.txt

[*]Windows dedicated server

  • <gamefolder>/7DaysToDieServer_Data/output_log.txt

[*]Windows dedicated server started through startdedicated.bat

  • <gamefolder>/7DaysToDieServer_Data/output_log__<DATETIME>.txt

Have you tried to verify your  game files yet.  If I'm have a problem with 7D2D it would be the first thing I would do.

It has worked for me in the past when I started having a problem.

Go to Steam > Library  and  right click on 7D2D > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of File and run the check.

It's worth a try.

The launcher crashes without starting the game so it doesn't make a log file. Is there a launcher log file somewhere?

I'll try verifying it.

See if you got a crash report for it

/users/username/AppData/Local/TFP/Crash

Something like that (I am at work so I can't verify the file location on my computer).

I'm looking at it now and can't find a log file. I've searched for crash. I've looked for log.  Nothing

You should have multiple copies of your output log files from when you have played successfully. Go to the drive Steam is installed on (C or D or whatever): program files (86)/Steam/steamapps/common/7 Days To Die/7DaysToDie_Data and in that folder there should be several files with this kind of format:

output_log_2022-01-22_19-53-17 where the numbers mean year-month-day-hour-minute-seconds of when it was created.

That did it!  It reloaded one file and everything works now.

Thank You!!
