Game lagging and problems with multiplayer

Version
Most recent
Platform
XBOX
Every time I try to play multiplayer with my friends it does not work properly whether it’s my world or theirs. We have the issue of sinking into the map, sound effects being delayed or off, not being able to pick up or open chest. Sometimes very much delayed. Zombies lagging where you can’t fight.

Recently today my friend was in my world. She couldn’t pick up anything, zombie lagging, when she said she was over somewhere doing something, on my screen she was just standing there.

Making it very difficult to play or want to play this game.

We have tried the resetting the game and xbox but doesn’t seem to help.

Providing a log would improve your chance of getting help with this issue.
That said, the symptoms you describe point to a network problem.
Here are some things to try to address that.
These are the most common causes of network issues:

1: AntiVirus: Add folder exclusions for the game and save folders in your antivirus software.
(on both client and host/server)

2: oem gaming or network optimizers, like Gamefirst from Asus, Gigabyte LAN Optimizer, HP's Omen, Dell,
Corsair, Razor, etc.
Uninstall all this junkware.

3: VPN or proxy: Use split tunneling to add an exception for the game.
Or turn off the vpn.

4: Using Wifi. (WiFi is half-duplex, encrypted, and subject to interference) Use Ethernet instead.

5: Many newer routers have built in security apps which may be interfering with the game's network.
Log into your router to see if this is happening.

Hi Done and Dead,

We are sorry to hear that you are running into performance issues, and we understand that it can really take away from the fun experience.

Here are a few things that may help improve performance for Xbox:
  • Make sure you do a full restart of the system prior to playing to clear memory and improve stability during long play sessions.
  • Install the game on internal storage (SSD) rather than external with ample free space (10-15% free) to help overall system performance.
  • Use a wired connection versus wi-fi to reduce latency and packet loss.
  • Let the player with the strongest internet connection and stable console performance host the game.
  • Try using performance mode, if available, to improve frame rates
  • Lower your Field of View (FOV) - a slightly lower field of view can reduce how much the game renders at once. This can help during busy scenes.
Please let us know if you continue to have issues after trying the above steps.

Best Regards,
Dollie
