PC From unstable to stable

Hello Everyone,

I have a question, perhaps you may know from a long history with 7 days to die. I am curious when an alpha is released as unstable how long does it take before it goes to stable on an average. IE alpha 17 drops in one hour (yea right), how many days, weeks, or months before we see a so called stable version?

I know that it is likely to be a who knows, it drops when it drops answer. I am asking those who have experienced this in the past, what they guess would be the ideal answer.

Thank You All,

Chaplain

Oh...

About a month-ish.
Experimental only started in A16 (or A15?) so we don't have a lot to draw from
That shows how long i been around...

well in that situation, does anyone recall how long it was between unstable and stable?

Thank you all again.

I think it's been about a month in the past.

You should also understand that "stable" is a relative term. It means that it is stable for a significant percentage of the player base. Once A17.0 hits there will still be edge cases of people not able to play because of their configurations (I'm looking at you "gaming" laptop owners) or user issues (I'm looking at you goofballs who refuse to clean your data and start fresh) or graphics card conflicts (I'm looking at you Nvidia and Unity) so there will be lots of angry posts to the developers demanding they not use the word "stable" because "this ♥♥♥♥ aint stable".

As the game moves to A17.1 and A17.2 most of the edge cases will get resolved and it will truly be stable for most users. And then the team will start their next projects for the next update whatever they decide they are going to call it.

But it's typically good enough to get into a realy good game within a week. They usually achieve a lot of patches within the first 2 days, after a flurry of bug reports.

Sorry i did not read that part where you said monthish Eidobunny. Thank You.

Ok cool thank you everyone you all rock!

If you want to play uninterrupted without random wipes, then add 2 months to the "final" release date.

However we are waiting for so long that A17 better be damn stable from get go.

I am very struggling not to write a mid-length rant about pace of development and avoidance of taking the game to beta/release.

Only reason we're still sitting in alpha after 5 god damn years is to have an excuse to flip everything over update to update and while all of it makes for a better game, had I knew its not going to be anywhere near ready 5 years after kickstarter, I doubt I'd go for it.

So at what point should server providers switch then?
They usually wait until Stable due to possible wipes being required between experimental updates.

I plan on hosting in experimental though.

Personally, I never wipe. After a few weeks, even the zombies start to give me a wide berth...and that's with smell being broken!

Um, no. That's absolutely not gonna happen. They'll release the experimental when it's at least playable with the huge major bugs fixed. Period. It will NOT be stable. For one that's almost impossible to find all the bugs without having thousands of people with different setups and playstyles playing it. Expect the exact same process post experimental release that we had for A16.

Much like Sylen, I will be throwing up an A17E server as well. Might be mixed pvp/pve not sure yet. I will keep my old "vanilla" servers up until A17 stable releases. After that the only A16.4 servers I will have up will be Darkness Falls and Medieval Mod till they get updated for A17 as well.

Let me clarify:

Once stable version hits, I expect it to be stable after this long time.

I'm fed up of having to wait additional 1-2 months to play without forced wipes.

I bought this game just after A15 release and I'm not very active on this forum, but even I read a tons of times that TFP promised some features on Kickstarter and that it's common for game developing to call versions before all feature are in alpha. I also read that there are still some features missing and thus the game is still in alpha. After they added all features they will go for beta where optimizing, balancing, bugfixing and similiar stuff will happen. If all is good, they'll go for release.

So I wonder why you are thinking it's all about having an excuse!?!

Also: Since they are doing lots of beta stuff for each alpha, so we can play each alpha without bigger problems, developing takes way more time. They'd probably be way faster if every new alpha version were just internal and we player were still stuck at the first playable alpha version.

Then you better wait until a17 Stable to play it. Your expectations do not meet with reality.

Man where does all this come from ? "alpha after 5 damn years!". Is there anyone who can deny they have had more than their moneys worth from this game? What was the last game you liked enough to even play over 5 years?

I bought this game for eight quid from a humble bundle sale. Way less than a aaa title and have had so much more fun and time invested than almost any other game going wayyyyyy back to the zx81.

The very fact they are still actively working on it should be a cause for joy! Kickstarter is not exactly a proving ground for great releases and continued support. We all want a finished game, we all want optimisation, we all want this, we all want that.

For me, i trust them to provide and give us the game they wanted to give us! if not i cant call foul, i have had way too much fun with this game over years to have reason to complain about stuff they are still dedicated to and working on.

I am currently below 2c per hour played and the rate is going down.

The deal was good and it's getting better.

It's a rare win-win scenario.
