Friends can't connect to server.

One of my friends gets stuck on "Receiving and Loading configs". the other is stuck on "downloading world 1%" We've tried everything we can think of. Validating files, uninstalling and reinstalling, hitting F1 and typing random commands, even clearing steam cache. nothing is working. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I have the same symptoms.

I'm looking for a solution, but it's not easy.

To try temporary access, manually download the map files from the server and install them on your friend's computer. You can connect, but you'll experience various bugs.

I potentially have a related issue. On the first night of release, started a new multiplayer game that worked fine. Last night, started a new one with the same player, and when loading the new world that I was already in, it restarted some of the loading messages, and when he eventually joined, nothing in hotbar, no dukes note or other items, and no challenge menu. Really weird as worked night 1 but not since

Without logs from the host and the client joining during the time it happens, It is going to be hard to give you a solution.

Not related, and there is a bug report thread on this.

When me and my friend try to play, the not Host player loses the Achievements the tab has no more Achievements to select and dont come back even after relogging

Thanks that's great - missed it as the title says achievements not challenges which is what I was looking for. Sounds like no common cause judging by the comments, will do further testing. I personally think the error happens sooner than when choosing a spawn locations, as the loading messages restart part of the way through for the joining player
