PC Forum Logins

Yeah, still having problems.  Surprising they haven't fixed it, or at least commented on it.

Well now i get it aswell. When i got that message that something went wrong, i simply clicked on my profile, post history and clicked on a post, that way i kept being logged in somehow and could navigate the forum normal again.

Yeah, when I see it happen, the page I am going to loads almost instantly, as though it's cached or something and I'm not logged in.  When I load a page where I am logged in, it takes slightly longer (still under a second, but you can definitely notice the difference, especially on a phone).

I've had this issue on Edge for a week or so. Log in seemed to fail, saying something went wrong, but refreshed and I was logged in. Came back a while later and I had to try and log in again, had to refresh. As of this message, I opened the page and I was logged in already. Thought it was something to do with switching to Linux for my new PC, but then I saw this topic.

It's so intermittent. Today the forum works fine. Yesterday I just gave up because I was getting nowhere.

I'd say the forum software (if an update was done not long before this started to happen), or due to something with the anti-bot stuff they are using.  I'm leaning towards that because they started having a lot of those dumb bot attacks not too long before this started happening and they started using that verifying human stuff right after that.  And not long after, we started having these problems.  But that's just speculation.  As I mentioned, you can see a difference in load time for a page if it loads the page with you logged in versus with you logged out.  Something isn't properly loading or being processed for some reason.

The difference in speed can also be a "proper" result of the bug; the default non-logged-in page is the same for everyone, so it makes sense to cache that. So if you're not logged in, it could just be naturally faster.

I don’t have a way to fix this. I’ve informed Brains, the webmaster. Changing forum software is one possibility, though that idea has been a long time coming.

But, that never used to happen before; it only started a few months ago. Something that was changed in the software made this happen.

^^ This

If something suddenly starts happening where it did not happen before, that is usually because there was a change.   What changes were made when the issue started?

I think I may have resolved the issue, you may get logged out 1 last time and have to login again, but shouldn't experience it again. It looks like it isn't a true logout but if you refresh the page, it would show you logged in again.

EDIT:

Still seems to have some issues, will continue looking into it.

EDIT 2: Seems to be a bit more stable?

I don't know that it's more stable... I've had it show me logged out multiple times yesterday and today still.  Since it seems to be random, it's hard to be sure if it's better or not, though.
