For clarity, please always allow displaying the radial menu on [workbenches/traps/...] but display a message about why it can't be picked up right now (if it can't). I seriously never knew that; I've played this game for years.
This would be consistent with other in-game things like weapons: you can always display radial ammo menu even if you don't have other ammo types.
edit: I see now this is explicitly mentioned in the "Land Claims" journal entry; I only got confused because (as a longtime player) I thought I already knew everything land claims did and never read the journal entry. I still hope you implement what is detailed above: consistency is good design.
