PC Food poisoning too brutal? Bug?

I bought a bacon and eggs from the trader because my stamina was at 80 and I had no food. I consumed it, and I guess it gave me food poisoning, not sure, the debuff was gone almost immediately and my stamina/food immediately dropped to 29. It was absolutely brutal; I commenced jumping off the small tower in the trader's lot in an effort to kill myself, which took 4 jumps (if only max health and food were linked, instead of stamina and food).

I am enjoying the new alpha but the food poisoning chance of prepared foods is rough and the penalty I experienced was absolute nonsense. I guess farming is mandatory now because I can barely keep my stamina up just foraging for foods. :jaded:

That’s how it works and it’s fine. I’m on day 8 and I’ve gotten food poisoning once. My diet has consisted almost exclusively of cooked meat.

I'm running 120 minute days on day 5 and have not yet gotten food poisoning once. Maybe I've just been lucky. I've eaten a lot of boiled meat. With some canned goods to top it off

Everyone in my group has gotten food poisoning once and only once. We're also dying every other day, so it's really not much of an issue, lol

im level 10 and have eaten bacon and eggs and grilled meat the whole time and have not gotten food poisoning yet and have gotten dysentery one time. and all i drink is boiled water. i love the new mechanics

I got it a couple of times, but it was due to desperate need and eating char meat and shamwich. I was gonna starve to death either way so those are good for gamble when you're desperate. IMO, it not an issue and make game play exciting, I get nervous every times I eat/drink when my fullness in the 80s and I need health/stam.

I hear you. I find myself thinking “is it worth the risk” a lot...instead of just gobbling up bacon and eggs (or later meat stew) until I’m overstuffed.

I now tend to drop to 80 or so, eat a cooked meal, then top off with canned goods. (It is harsher to get sick when more ull because you feel like you just wasted that food).

I’m also curious if there are any modifier conditions (like increased chance when really hungry or mostly full). I’m doubting it, and I’m not even sure if I would like it, but I is an interesting conundrum. ;)

The lowest i came was around 55 food. This was mostly due to not having anything on me while i was busy making trenches around the trailers in the trailer park. Didn't want to stop mid way, so i continued and afterwards went back to eat somethings. I was lucky enough to not get any food poisoning, nor dysentery. On the other hand, now i mostly drink red and goldenrod teas.

Can food had no use before, now its the safe bet when you really need to eat like when you draw blood. In 15hours of play I have gotten food poisoning twice and we eat a lot of boiled meat. The can food we find is like treasure now, in a17 we just scrapped the cans or saved them for oil. Now we actually use the can food as food when on trips or looting large buildings.

im over level 50 and have never got poisoning or dysentery. I did put 1 point into iron gut at the start, maybe that makes the difference.

I have never got infected either now that I think about it.

food poisoning isn't really that brutal when you think about it in a realism sense, you are making food, likely without proper cleaning or tools (knife you gutted a deer with earlier and stuck in the dirt a second while you pulled the hide off? yeah thats perfect for cutting the meat later without cleaning...I mean, who has the time for that with Zeds after you) and forget using soap on your hands...its not just germs that make us sick, particulates of things you touch daily can make you just as sick as under cooking something. (its why boiled water still carries risks, there are possible floating bits of stuff in there still...its why the mineral water recipe has coal in it...filtering)

Those of you who haven't gotten sick multiple times have been extremely lucky. I have gotten food poisoning at least five or six times. I am on day 15, and I have had the first tier of the iron guts perk for most of that time.

The problem is that you have to eat so much more food than you do in real life, so even a small percentage chance will multiply quickly. You have to eat 5 grilled meat to get 100 stamina from 50, and each one gives a 4% chance of food poisoning. I'm not great at math, but I know that means your chances of getting sick are much higher than 4%.

What they should have done is made it so that each tier of master chef reduces the food poisoning chance of the food you make, so that someone who spends the points can make food with a zero chance of poisoning. Also, the perk should increase the stamina amount of food by a little bit too. I'm going to do this in my game by editing the data files, now that I think of it.

Take an axe to every stump you see... Forever.

Chop every Goldenrod you see until you're satisfied.

As I play Dead-is-Dead, I carry a full stack of Goldenrod tea and up to a full stack of honey.

Never a worry then. :)

Haven't been sick yet, I see. When you get the sickness, which I did twice in 5 days, it instantly dumps all your food and you go from healthy to starving in milliseconds.

It is ridiculous as you don't have all your food in your stomach, there is some working through you at the same time. So while I'm OK with the ability to get sick, the 100% food loss is idiotic. Make it to where you lose 50% or just that which you just ate and I'd be OK with it. Going from 80 fullness to red flashing starving is just not good gameplay when food is already at a premium.

Just to clarify, my comment is in regards to food poisoning. Dysentery is a breeze and I never worry about that but with vitamins being extremely scarce and canned food being scarce, sometimes I don't have any choice but to eat 4% food.

i've had 2 games, 1 till day 17, 1 till day 12, never got dysentery or food poisioning once, and I was eating sham sandwhiches and stuff. If you get hit with it, its just REALLY bad luck, though the sham sandwhiches IS risking it with its 12% chance. I won't eat them unless I got backup food just incase.

Hate to tell you, food is easy as hell to get, you just don't use all avail sources. Trader and vending machines are life savers. Many people don't use them at all which is kinda sad.

I do agree that the debuff comes and goes way to quick. There should be some warning you don't feel good, with about 1 minute to prep and then the food/water loss commences and last for about another minute or so.

Then there should be tea/medicine you can take to reduce the effect "not completely cure it".

Honey cures Infection, Goldenrod cures Dysentery (which is different from Food Poisoning). Nothing cures Food Poisoning. It hits you immediately and is gone immediately. It lowers you to 29 (or thereabouts) Hunger, and there is nothing you can do about it except eat again to bring your Hunger back up.

If it hits you early game when food is an issue, it can be devastating. If it hits you mid- or late-game when you have established your supplies, it is an irrelevant inconvenience.

I don't think it is that he is really unlucky. I think it is that you are REALLY lucky. The food poisoning has affected me greatly and I don't go around eating green sandwiches.

The survival aspect of this game is the worst part of this game. I wish I could turn it off.
