PC Food poisoning and dysentery

I haven't really given much thought to whether the system should be different. All I know is that I am on Day 40 and have been poisoned one time. I always eat cooked food (bacon and eggs until I could cook steak and potatoes). *shrug*

The only idea that makes sense to me while maintaining the end results of the current food system is to make it so that everything has a chance to give you food poisoning. Then with each higher tier of recipe of cooked foods, the risk goes down and highest tier is 0% risk.

This aligns with survival progression, it promotes farming, looting, and purchasing. Most importantly, it gives reason and purpose to any cooking perks and all recipes. It's so obvious of a solid and comprehensive system it's almost begging to be implemented.

I was food poison only once since experimental release, and it was due to desperate need and I ate those old sandwich (I once ate 3 of those in a row and didn't get food poison).

you guys just need to plan better and cook better food, one of those that gave 30~50 stam a pop, vegy/meat/chowder. Loot more and find one of those schematic, or do those dig quest. Eat can food or buy perk if you can't handle it

reason why early game food keep giving food poison is you have to eat so many times to be full, thus more chance to be food poison.

let say 30 stam left, 100 to full

e.g corn bread 5 stam (iirc), 4% food poison. that 14 times to consume food, 14 times you roll the dice to get food poison.

meat soup 50 stam, that 2 times to roll the dice (with extra stam to spare).

making high end food is already a better chance, don't be lazy and spam cornbread/grill meat. I don't think i've ever been food poison once while eating those high end food.

With that reasoning why not remove low end food completely from the game, if the point is to avoid it at all costs?

No, there needs to be a fix to food poision chance for low end foods, just because you'll eat more of them the risk will be higher by far.

I haven't had any food poisoning yet but that doesn't mean anything because it's random. I also mainly fed on canned food until I had the resources and recipes to produce higher quality food.

I've done as many buried supplies quests as possible but it's not guaranteed that you'll find a recipe that will help you in the early game. For example, the first thing I found was a recipe for steak and potatoes.

Didn't help me at that time because I had neither potatoes nor mushrooms. The other two recipes I found in the early game were for chilli dogs and fish tacos. For Chilli Dogs you need cornbread which again requires a recipe of its own. You also need a certain kind of canned food for both recipes.

The second week I found the recipe for bacon and eggs.

You also have to find the ingredients or be able to grow them yourself. Again you need luck to find the right recipes. For example, I still don't know how to make mushroom spores and have only two mushrooms in my garden.

Without any luck the only option is to invest at least 2 points in Master Chef and at least 3 points in Living of the Land. But you have to be at least level 3 in strength and level 5 in fortitude. Investing into the perks consumes a lot of points.

the whole point of food poisoning was to lower food supplies and make finding food more important. In A17 and earlier, food and drink are not survival aspect, it mild inconvenience. There were no point in making better food, just 50 stack of corn bread or meat. FYI, people was asking for food spoilage, which is IMO even worse. And you don't avoid low end food at all cost, low end food suppose to be for desperate need and you don't have anything better to eat.

I was talking about the leaky gut perk. that the cheaper route if you loot your way to make a farm and making low end food.

but yea, IMO they kinda overkill it with food and farming recipe gating, they should make basic foods recipe (10 stam or less) freebies like the corns food, boil/grill meat. MM have a giant thread of food recipe so he should be adding mid tier foods in the future, I think he working on new books atm.

and all seeds lvl 1, move harvesting x2 to level 2 and add something else in that skill tree (maybe x4 as last). probably should bring this up with the main A18 thread or balancing thread.

Not really working as intended, is it? Low end food give too little health to even bother with, considering the risk. It's really better to die and take the death sickness atm than bother eating at all until you have leveled up cooking and farming enough. It's just a skip and superflous as it is know. IMHO one of the biggest weaknesses with alpha 18.

As always with this kind of game design, consider risk vs reward. There is NO reward with low end food atm, only risk.
