Feedback on Zone effects

Hi,
I have been playing this game since you harvested poo from toilets and you leveled through doing what you wanted to level up at -- so a REALLY long time. I would like to express that I believe you have done the zones too aggressively. One of the things I HATE about games is the whole STAGE-GATE process that games use to limit where you can go based on how 'experienced' you are. IMO, if you are a level 1 and want to skulk around in a deadly area that is way above your level -- you should. The Health-damaging effects of the new zones are just a horrible type of stage-gate. Honestly if you wanted to provide difficulty but allow players to play with more challenge you would change the effects from health damage to loss of ability. As an example, a cold zone should sap your strength and agility and greatly increase your food consumption as happens when one is in a REAL cold environment. Radiation removes strength, your health pool and fortitude while a smoke area should harm your perception and action pool. When you are in a heat zone you should lose water at an astounding rate and your perception and intellect should be harmed. The longer you stay effected in those zones the greater the reduction in your attributes. That would still allow people to venture into those zones and complete the challenges and have penalties that they can actually try to work around in solving the problem of surviving in a biome. Going into buildings to survive isn't even a clever kludge to solve the DoT problem it is just, well lazy. Radiation doesn't care about being in a house, nor does cold or heat or smoke.

Get rid of the damage over time effect -- it is a HORRIBLE mechanic which is just a lazy hack.

A lazy hack huh? Well what are you waiting for, drop that resume'. Show em how it's done!
Well, while you are sitting and enjoying your heat, water and gas, know that a lot of the code that is running the SCADA systems that are bringing that to you have my fingerprints on it... How about you drop your resume?
And yes it is lazy -- lazy of thought.

Considering you can turn that off if you don't like it, I don't see the issue. Also, it takes almost no time to get the protection items to prevent that damage. You might not be level 1 by the time you complete it since you level up so quickly in this game, but you can certainly still be on day 1 and go to any biome you want. The fact that you can get the protection items in any order now means it's not really gated anymore.

Your complaint seems more suited for 2.0 rather than 2.4. These days you can go into any biome in any order and by using shelter can stay in them even without the specialized gear.

Where is the line that differentiates a feature from being a challenging hazardous environmental aspect of a biome that makes the world more dynamic and less static or just being a fancy level gate? 2.0 was closer to level gate but 2.4 is a lot closer to environmental feature.
