PC Farming

In all the recent posts whether they are positive or negative.

I never once read something about the new way of farming.

@TFP,

Well done,

Being able to harvest your crop and auto-replant the seed is a great feature.

Also the linked skills are THICC.

You might want to reduce grow time though.

I am at lvl 58 now on a MP server and every login my garden is fully grown because the servers keeps running.

I know this is difficult to balance since you also have to focus on SP gamers.

I am stocked with veggie's now.

But hey, not complaining. :strawberry:

We tried but found no way to balance the growth timers to the frequency with which iejen logs onto a multiplayer server. ;)

Haha, let me help you.

I play daily between 19:30 ~ 22:00 CET.

On Saturdays I play till 01:00 / 02:00.

If you could include my name in the XML's so I can adjust them in on holiday that's fine.

Thanks Gazz! :strawberry:

Stuff gets buried fast under the continuous flow of complaints, reactions and personal A17e-"reviews".

Oh and yeah, I like the new farming too. Hated replanting.
All those negative-Nancy's.

There is a huge gap between feedback and complaints

So far I found some issues/comments with farming:

1. When you use a hoe to remove grass, sometimes it takes a few mouse-clicks to actually execute the command/remove the grass with the hoe.

2. When placing mushroom seeds, you can accidentally place the seeds in the air. You can get the seed back when you hit it but it's annoying.

3. XP for harvesting crops is fine. Please do not increase the XP for harvesting crops in the next update. Some of us have huge farms and we do not want to inadvertently level just because we want to harvest the food.

4. I like the new system where you don't have to replant crops but I miss fertilizing. Gives more reasons to loot toilets for turds (appears to be removed as well). Perhaps fertilizer (if added back in) could be used to reduce growth times. You can still use those farming perks along with it.

I like the new food recipes. Perhaps in the future add more food types/recipes? Look to starvation mod if you want some ideas. That mod has tons of food recipes.

I'm not 100% sure but I remind them mentioning this is something they will do in the future.

I really like what they've done with farming. Farming and mining are among my favorite things to do in this game. Not having to replant every harvest is such a great addition. It does feel like the crops regrow a little too fast for me as well. I'm not sure how the growth rate is calculated, whether it's based on a certain amount of real world time or if it's a certain amount of in game days. I play on a server that is set on a 120 minute day and it feels like the crops need harvesting about every in game day, I shut the server down every time I get off so that isn't an issue.

If only food was relevant once you are specced for Stamina. Stopped farming around day 20 as we have no room to store the produce and no need for it. And I was feeding 4 people!! I now have 1200 Meat, and 150 Bacon and Eggs doing nothing.

Also, what is up with trees growing so fast too!? I planted a few trees outside my base and bam, instantly halfway growth already. Must be something in the ground.

Default harvest is 3 in game days of 60 minutes. So at 120 minute days it's every 1.5 days to a new harvest.

Am wondering if the way it is now is a bit OP. Don't get me wrong I like the idea of the crop being replanted by hitting but was thinking the recipe could go back to 1 seed from 1 plant, but in order for it to be replanted you have to have the seed in your inv. So if you have a crop plot of 100 plants you would need 100 seeds in inv. If you hit the 101st plant you would get your harvest but no seed would be replanted. 5 plants to make one seeds and then you have an infinite planting ability for it doesn't seem right. I know in a few days I could still have hundreds of seeds but it is just the principle of the thing to me.

Finally did get around to starting farming and got 1st crops. I don't get what people are saying about them growing in MP, don't they stop growing if nobody is on the MP server since the time doesn't advance or is there some bug?

Other than finding the punch to harvest too clumsy, I actually like the new system (which at 1st glance seemed pointless and a waste of time, but like a few things this patch have grown on me after giving them a chance).

Since player placed plants leave a planted seed and worldgen do not, would it be possible to make the player plants use the old way of collecting? That way you know right away too what kind of plant it is.

What would solve all these issues is to put growth time multiplier into settings (or an xml file at least). I usually mod three things when dust settles. The growth of everything (and always forget something), the drying of concrete and damage done to blocks by tools (increasing each 5-10 times). I want to need more than a single stalk of corn and I want to actually have to account for the time the concrete dries. Last of all, the mining is too fast for my liking.

But the bottom line is, put a multiplier on all growth (or even better, separate trees and everything else).

That would invalidate the whole perkline; there would be no reason to get more than 1 point of farming.

So as it is now you either find seeds or you use 4 (they lowered it from 5 to 4) crops to make 1 seed, that yields you a single crop but will regrow. So making more seeds is very inefficient, until maxed perk where you get 5 crops so could in theory make another seed and still have 1 harvest. Maxing farming is going to be done by people who really like farming or have nothing better to spend their points on as a late game luxury. So this is fairly well balanced now, and good riddance to having to manually replant crops.

So even mowing down a worldgen field of corn, you could make like 12 seeds from that, plant them and grow 12 per cycle at lvl 1. Hardly an overabundance.

Exactly what I did. I will say, with all the meat I have, the corn is pretty useless. Not an overabundance, sure, but not particularly worthwhile.

I miss fertilizing too. It was the perfect excuse for having a room full of cement mixers ;)

Yeah, cornbread is no longer the top of the heap (or even anywhere close), grain alcohol doesn't seem nearly as pressing, between not being able to drink 'shine, medkits a luxury and no more biofuel. Demand has been really cut.

Gazz you have killed the cornfarmers!!!

Ugh I don't. No more hauling turds. It was just too time consuming unless you had a room full of mixers. And my nitrate pretty much now all goes to gunpowder :D

I like the new farming. We set the timer to be a bit slower on our personal server. Hubby does the planting and upkeep and I harvest and make seeds (since I took the Int perks). This is our 5th restart trying out what works and doesnt work for perks and who takes what. I love the not having to replant, many plants have multiple harvests or some things are ripe before other ares of the same plant. I wouldn't change anything. If you are getting a surplus why arent you selling to the trader or renting a vendor to sell to the NPC's?

Farming is looking good right now TFP.

Don't mess with it.

There's other fish to fry.

Speaking of... maybe some recipes when you guys are done with the big stuff.

On my server I have many dishes that are created with the canned goods found in the game.

There's nothing that can't be made into something better.

Now with all these buffs, the sky's the limit with food.

Farming change was good agreed. It was quite a pain having to collect everything, craft new seeds and then plant them. It definitely felt like a chore. Now I can harvest crops so much faster and without the feel of a chore. Well done on the change TFP.

I don't believe anything past rank 1 in that perk system is worth it though as farming produces a lot of food quite fast especially now that there are naturally occurring farms in random gen, you can have a full veggie patch very fast (assuming you find the soil tiling tool). No need for double harvest etc.
