Farming sickles

I feel that farming could use a tool, one that attack quickly and uses small amounts of stamina, when used on vegetation it has a higher chance for seed yield aswell can gift more from a crop depending on what material and tier it is made from, it can also be used to swiftly take care of grass and can also gift more plant fiber when used on small plants like grass, it’s a tool designed for farming and gardening :)

Of course it would require balancing but it could meld well perhaps

Is it really needed? There is already a perk and also armor that will increase your harvest. Adding yet another item to do it would require a noticeable reduction in the benefits of the perk and the armor to compensate, which would upset people even if the tool made up for it. But even if it didn't upset people, harvesting crops would then require you to invest in 3 things - perk, armor, tool - to do what you can do now. Stamina shouldn't even be an issue when harvesting crops. You know you can harvest crops with your hands, right? I'm not even sure it's possible to run out of stamina by just punching crops over and over. And speed is more related to how quickly you can move than your "attack" when harvesting, so faster "attack" may not make any actual difference.

Well, with that many plots and you are running out of stamina at or near the end, is the 10 seconds or so to fill stamina back up one time really that big of a deal? Besides, no one forces you to have such a large farm. You certainly don't need anywhere near that much food or money, even with 8 players.

Well, there are 13 or so types of crops (seems like it should be 20 with the book series, but it isn't) and I do 5 X 5 plots. With 13 types of seeds, you need to do a 4 X 4 of crop plots to get an even lay out, so I double up on things that I use more.

Do I end up with thousands of unused crops? Of course I do. But it's aesthetically pleasing to me to set it up that way, so I do.

Nothing wrong with doing it for aesthetics. Of course, if that is the reason, you can just not harvest everything. Out of all the crops, I use fewer than half of them. Mushrooms, potatoes, and corn are really the only things I use most of the time. I'll sometimes grow other things, especially to complete the challenges, but I rarely use them even if I just find them. I have no interest in searching for eggs all game, so I stop gathering them once I am past bacon and eggs. I see no reason to spend my time gathering them to cook pies and stuff with blueberries or pumpkins. I don't have coffee or tea, so have no reason to grow those things. I don't craft aloe cream, so don't need that. And so on. I'll plant trees sometimes, but those don't require farm plots or normal harvesting anyhow.

And I am sure anyone planting 400 crops is also not using all of them. Harvest only what you use and let the rest stay grown, imo. And the idea of planting that much super corn to sell that some people do just seems cheesy and pointless since money is so easy to get and not really needed for much.

I will say that being able to clear grass quickly would be nice. I've given up on cutting all the heads around my bar because of the time it takes, but I would like having a way to do that quickly. I just don't think it should be a way to get a ton of grass in seconds or minutes. I would be happy to have a way to cheat all grass within the land claim with the click of a button while getting no grass from doing so.

I make blackstrap coffee and purified water, so I need coffee, goldenrod and chrysanthemum. I tend to mostly eat steak and potato meal, so that's mushrooms and potatoes. Blueberries for herbal antibiotics (not that I need to make them very often).

I just like to have a farm. It seems like something that I should do in the apocalypse. I'm certainly not advocating for anyone else to do it, and while I have used mods that add sickles or scythes (or a riding lawnmower) I don't really see any need to add them to vanilla (though I do kinda miss the hoe and farming in the ground, but I'll live.)

I do make mineral water, but it is one of each flower per bottle and the bottles last a long time, so I just grab the very limited number I need just from the ground without farming them. But that is just me. 😀

oh the blue berrie and yucca are nice for the yucca smoothie, i'll use those a lot while i am out and about for some good hydration and to top off my food. I'm pretty sure i use more hydration than anything with my playstyle lol.

But hell yeah does mineral water hit hard. Finding that book early is a game changer.

My field is 7*20=140.
I also sometimes brew black coffee. But as a rule, 1 harvest is enough for me for the whole game. For food, I usually use vegetable stew, meat stew and hobo stew. 2 harvests of potatoes and corn are also enough for me for the whole game. I grow mushrooms on the wall of the house, and not on plots. For drinks, I prefer yuca smoothies, so 1 harvest for half a field for yuca and blueberries also takes quite a long time. And this is despite the fact that when playing on the server, I can sometimes give some newbie 2-3 stack of food and water.

Most often, my field is planted with super corn, since I try to go to all the merchants once every 3 days and buy magazines from them, and at the same time modifications for dew collector (I have 20 of them).
