Fake servers

Until when this will continue? You guys are destroying your own game allowing fake servers with fake pop to continue to exist. It's so easy to detect those things, you even even use battlemetrics to identify those things.

Is this not against the TOS? If that kind of practice is allowed please someone let me know.

There is already a bug report and a TFP tester said that they are working on it.

But I don't think a solution is easy to find: Until now servers report whatever they want. If TFP brings out a patch that for example removes all servers with >999 max players then those fake servers will simply downgrade that number to one that is accepted. Each update the fake server owners would react and the problem would reappear.

One of the few objective measures that could work IMHO would be sorting for ping, though maybe there are some important game server providers who generally have ping blocked(??).

BattleMetrics shows the actual players connected to the server, so it is not relying on values that can be easily changed or spoofed.

After spending a couple of hours digging through the code and testing, I also found a way to set those displayed values to whatever I want.

So yes, if TFP bases detection only on max/player count numbers shown in the server list, people can simply edit those values.

Blocking ping is not a good solution either. Some servers already do something similar in USA, battlemetrics shows one thing, the in-game menu shows something else, and once you connect, there are only around 6 real players, exactly like battlemetrics showed.

When was it again when they messed up the server search function? 1.0? And it still hasn't been fixed. I don't even think you can search by population properly. Basic search functionality that appears in nearly any other game has continued to elude TFP. It's in an unusable state.
