Emetophobic with problems playing with the game.

For those unaware, the phobia refers to the irrational fear of regurgitation and mostly everything related to it. Ever since I got the game (4-5 years ago?) I had friends help me remove the eating/drinking noises for a while. I'm not asking for it to be removed from a game, but how about a toggle? I don't really remember the policemen having such nasty noises, either. Neither the tourist zombies. I humbly request a toggle for squeamish people.

Interesting, didnt notice. But I also mod out the cop vomit.....been a while though...really cant remember.

I am not affraid, but it does make me vomit if I see someone starting the process. So, I can understand....or maybe the same thing, dunno.

Kinda like yawning, once someone does it...well.

Just a note that the Pimp Dreams forum is where suggestions should go. They can quickly get hidden here by all the general discussion posts.

They do plan on a lot of new options before 3.0, so maybe they'll consider that option if they see the request. I just ignore the sounds of the zombies, so I normally don't even notice, but I also don't really "like" the sound either. Heh.

I really thought it'd be the other way around! But it's not like I expect it to happen anyways.

I'm not sure how much overall difference it makes, but the oldest post on this forum is Friday and the oldest post on the Pimp Dreams forum is Tuesday, so about 2x the time frame to push something off the page (using only a single page for data, which may not be accurate overall). But I think TFP is more likely to see the suggestions there. I could be wrong. :)

I run D&D games as a Dungeon Master, and I had a player once ask me to not have animals in the game that attacked them, or to hunt for food. I told them that this game isn't for them. Likewise, this game isn't for you.

This is an interesting thread. I absolutely see the points made by each "side" here.

Unless someone comes forward with a request like this, it's impossible to know how many other people might require or desire the same thing.
As long as it's presented respectfully and without expectations, I'd say (IMO) that it's both reasonable and constructive.
I also think that we're getting a bit late in the game for many changes like this to make it in, but again, if there's suddenly a ton of interest, you never know.
Appealing for a formal mod in one of those communities might be another avenue for the this.

Harry Potter did it for spiders, but there are also a lot of people afraid of spiders apparently. Not sure how many have emetophobia, but sure it doesn't hurt to shoot your shot.

Not much of a modder, but I imagine it wouldn't be too complex to create a mod that changes the burbing/vomitting noises of the cops and tourist to a standard zombie sound and either mods cops out or eliminates their spewing. Not sure if it could all be done in XML or not, but I think so.

Op, as a backup you could post a request in the modding request subforum. Someone there might be able to point you to the files you need to change or possibly even make a modlet for you.

Modders don’t have request phobias. 😀

Respectfully, I understand why some of you make the suggestions for mods to be made and they are fair suggestions, but what about the players on console that might have the same problems? Unfortunately, mods won't help them.

And in case anyone misunderstands me, I'm not complaining in any way. I'm just trying to remind folks that, unless I'm mistaken, mods only help PC players.

Although true, there are some requests that aren't very likely to ever make it into the game, so suggesting mods in case they are on PC (or for anyone else reading this with a similar request who is on PC) is worth doing. Roland also phrased it as a backup... request it here, but also request it as a mod.

I get that console players get the raw end of the deal when it comes to mods since they rarely can use them, but that's unfortunately a fact of life for console players. If they care enough about being able to use all the extra things that mods provide, they can look into a PC for specific games that they would like to use mods for and can still use console for everything else. The complaint about cost has mostly become moot as console prices keep increasing and people tend to keep buying the newer consoles, which means spending even more money, and because you can get a decent PC for not much more money than modern consoles. My desktop computer, which I got around 7 years ago, was only a low to mid level gaming PC yet is still able to play most games I play, including this, on High or Ultra settings. I don't play many FPS games, which is where the PC would falter at those graphics settings, but even so, my computer could handle what consoles can handle for graphics even on those FPS games. And I paid about $700 altogether for it. So you can definitely get a PC for not that much more than a modern console and have far more flexibility. As far as people who don't want the "hassle" of dealing with file management (someone mentioned that) or Windows or whether or not a game is compatible.... those really aren't big problems anymore. Those were a greater issue in the 90s, but these days, those aren't really an issue anymore. Other than adjusting graphics, most games will play on most computers that aren't too old. There are exceptions, such as a game that requires ray tracing capability and won't work without it, but those aren't common. File management, especially with Steam is very minimal if you don't want to deal with it, and Windows isn't hard to use. Besides, most people born in the 90s or later probably know how to use Windows very well even if they prefer consoles, with many born before that also being comfortable with Windows. In the end, I think a lot of people just prefer console as a preference than for any tangible reason. PC can use console controllers, so controllers aren't an issue. About the only real difference is that you can have multiple people play side by side on the same console, which normally isn't an option on a single PC. Of course, this game doesn't allow that, so that isn't an issue with this game.

No disrespect meant towards the OP but the pool of people who have a phobia of biological gross sounds but then go and purchase a zombie horror game based on biological grossness is what is known in the business as an edge case.

Most suggestions by players for the game boil down to personal preferences that don’t necessarily translate to a better game for everyone. They are just edge cases.

If the devs spent their time on every edge case they would never get their game done and they’d never finish everyone’s edge cases. So mods are best for these.

And consoles are best for playing the intended version of games their devs made for everyone to enjoy. Console players are used to this since it’s how they’ve experienced every game they’ve ever played.
