Electricity Feels Limited – Proposal for Logic System Upgrade

Hi,

I’d like to suggest improving the electrical system in 7 Days to Die.

Right now, electricity feels very limited. Players can build basic circuits, but there are no tools for creating more advanced logic systems. For example, it’s currently impossible (or extremely impractical) to build something as simple as an XOR behavior (where output is active only when inputs differ).

This is mainly because the game lacks:

  • Logic gates (AND, OR, NOT, XOR)
  • Signal inversion
  • More advanced relays or programmable components
Adding even a small set of logic elements (or a programmable block) would significantly expand gameplay possibilities:

  • smarter traps and defenses
  • automation systems
  • creative engineering builds
Games like Minecraft show how much depth simple logic systems can add, and it would fit perfectly with the survival/engineering aspect of 7DTD.

Even a basic implementation (e.g., logic relay blocks or configurable switches) would already make a huge difference.

Thanks for your work and for continuing to develop the game.

Here are a few threads where logic gates have been suggested before:

Logic gates would certainly be a nice addition to the electric system in this game. Unfortunately, TFP has not been very interested in expanding or remaking electricity. We can still hope, though.

This is maybe something after V4 is released and in it´s last iteration. After that bug fixing. Then maybe new things. We don´t need anything dragging it out any further tbh.

You say that until the developers turn around and say the game is now done and you will be paying for the "Logic Update DLC".

I’m glad the old cable system is no longer visible it was really frustrating.

Maybe cameras that actually show a real-time view inside your base would be cool, but something like that would probably have a big impact on performance.

I spent a few months designing a military-style base and it turned out quite well.

It would be nice if the game had more sound effects, for example a proper audio cue when a gate opens. In some POIs added in 2.0, when you press a button you can hear a female voice speaking, which really adds atmosphere. It would be great if similar audio feedback was used for things like opening gates or activating different systems.

I’m not sure if such advanced technology really fits the game, since most of what we build feels more primitive and self-made, but who knows what the developers are planning.
