PC Dropping to the bottom of the ocean floor and missing bags

I was playing today and I found that while I was swimming across a lake to a little island on Navezgane I randomly dropped through the water all the way to the bottom and broke my leg as if there was no water around me, it was a fast descent all the way to the bottom, but then when I reach the bottom its like the water has returned and I have to slowly move back up to the top. This happened 3 times while I was swimming.

I have also found that sometimes when I die, it shows where my bag is, but when I go to where it was it is no longer there, but is still shown on the map.

That sounds like the Bermuda Triangle lol. What platform are you on? Also, are you absolutely sure the backpack wasn't on the bottom of the lake? Were you just crossing the lake or were you doing something?

I'm on console (Xbox One) and the bag was a complete different situation, I had died on flat land and it had just disappeared. I have a feeling its went under ground similar to the minibike situation when they just randomly sunk into the ground.

For the swimming issue, were you in the middle of the lake between structures, or near structures at all? I've heard of this happening with holes in the water caused by blocks being removed, but if it was in the middle that is odd. When swimming, are you spamming the jump button to move quicker, or were you moving steadily along?

For the backpack, sometimes these can fall through the ground but the icon can still indicate location. Often digging down on that spot will reveal the backpack.

I was just holding the jump button, at the time I was under one of those structures with wooden beams coming out of the water and I was smashing the beams to make it fall down and every now and then I would just drop to the bottom.

Thanks for that extra information NEMxDman, I understand what happened now.

So when an item, like a pillar, is destroyed in the water, it can create a void. The water physics do not fill in the void like they would in the real world or in a game like Minecraft for example. Players have tried to working with water but it can get a little tricky, especially when these voids appear. The team are aware of this physics issue, I believe the tweaks to the system need to come from PC, but I do know it's something they would like to improve.
