PC Drafting a post?

I just submitted a long post (pending for review), looks like half the images didn't go through (as I fell asleep in the middle of writing it), looked fine until I posted it, now the images are gone, got some duplicate paragraphs, and can't detele OR edit, since it's pending for review.

  1. How long are the images cached before unused ones are deleted?
  2. I don't see a save draft option on the forums.  Do I not have it yet, or is there not one?

I don't know if there is any timeframe for images to unload if you're on an unfinished post.  As far as drafts, there isn't an option for that.  However, if you haven't posted again, it will reload your "draft" again when you try to reply to the same topic.  I have to occasionally choose to clear that "draft" when I post.  It is possible you just aren't seeing the images in the pending post... they may appear when it is approved.

Side note, for future reference, if you are writing a long post for any forum I'd recommend doing it in an editor of some sort (Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, whatever) and copying and pasting from there.  This avoids most of the problems you might face and makes it a LOT easier to fix something that didn't post correctly.

Nope, it was approved with broken images and all, I'm going to have to fix it.  It reloads the text and images (I guess from my browser cache and not the server)

I didn't think I needed to.  Almost every forum has a save draft, so I just assumed I could do it here.  Bad idea.

WTF????  I just did this:

All I did was add that text, and was planning on fixing the images.  Guess not.  About to say screw it and delete the post.  If I have to fight with the forums to make a post.  I might as well not bother at all.

As long as there is a link in there, you will get that any time you edit the post.  You'd probably be better off just replying to it without links with any additional information, though you can of course edit it and wait for the approval process.  This forum tends to get a lot of spam bots, so they're a bit strict on certain things.

Thanks.

A message that tells me why it's flagged for review would be nice.   Is this limitation reduced as my post count goes up?

The only thing I am aware of with it are links, and that is true for everyone.  I think it may even be true for moderators, though they could approve their own posts, I assume.  Every time I edit the first post of the Teragon thread, the thread disappears until it is approved.  Sometimes that happens quickly and, other times, it has taken over 24 hours. It can definitely be frustrating, especially once you have a lot of posts, but not much we can do about it.

There may be other things that require approval, perhaps related to post count.  But I don't know of any.  Note that internal links to the forum or links to YouTube or links to pastebin don't seem to need approval.

You can avoid that the whole thread vanishes. When starting a thread make two posts, a first one only with text and pictures (or even empty if you want), and the second one with any links. That way the thread and the general information posting will never vanish and update immediately, only the links posts will get the delay

Yeah, that is an option.  I prefer keeping things in a logical order, though.  Placing links where they make sense rather than in a second post.  But that's just a personal preference.  If you aren't editing a post too regularly, it isn't much of a problem.  If I needed to edit a post multiple times a week, I might do that regardless of my preference.

It looks like if I just upload it to steam and use the link from their servers it doesn't need to be reviewed.

Test[Yup, Auto approved] (WIP) Anyone know what this suppose to be?  (Missing roof atm)

All posts with links must be manually approved. Even if it’s a moderator posting it. Even if it’s quoting someone else’s post with a link, or editing a post with a link. New users have additional restrictions on editing posts. This is all for anti-spam purposes. It’s not a great system, but it’s what we have and something is necessary. Sorry for the hassle. TFP have plans to migrate to new forum software at some point.
