PC Does using the workbench generate heat?

I queued up, the mini bike chassis, handlebars, vehicle light, vehicle reserve fuel tank, and the chemistry station when a slot was available. Then I put the forge on 6 minutes making iron bars and some steel bars.

I didn't think a screamer would come from this but one sure as hell did. It wasn't that big a deal, she died as soon as I heard her and the crowd she generated leveled me up. The only thing I can think of is the workbench generates heat when it's doing something.

Yes, the workbench has a heat rating of 5, like the chem station and cement mixer. The forge has a rating of 6. Dew collectors have a rating of 2. Torches and burn barrels have a rating of 1. Candles have a rating of 0.5. (That's from memory.)

Nearly everything generates heat. Hell, I found just crouching still with no workstations going, no dew collectors would suddenly attract a screamer as soon as I stood up.

A passive water collector that generates heat at all is just.... silly.  I am unable to suspend disbelief at this hokey game mechanic.  It makes no sense at all.  I guess dripping water attracts zombies.  Sure, I'd buy that for a nickel.

They did this to keep people from building 10 of them on their base.

Some points mentioned about this when heat was added to it...

Heat is a value reflecting activity of an item.  This includes actual heat, sound, and general coming and going.  The idea with the dew collector is that you do go there and check and and empty it and such, generating activity (heat).  If you leave it full, it stops generating heat, which fits with this.  If it was just sound of dripping water, you'd still get that when full.  But if you're leaving it full, then it shows a lack of activity of checking it and emptying it and stuff, so it isn't generating heat/activity.

Now, whether that's enough for you to accept as a reason is up to you.  In the end, it's a gameplay decision, which trumps any realism.
