PC Do you take over pois or make your base

Original console version: Take over POI for early-mid game, build base for mid-late game.

Version 1.0: Build bases from start while using roof of POI for hordes for early game.

Version 2.0: Plan is to fortify existing POI as base while I gather resources to build the town/city that has been building in my head. Won’t be feasible to use that as a base more of a seems like a good idea at the time for fun see if I can do it build.

I almost always build my own.  I enjoy building, so taking over a POI and having most of the work already done isn't any fun for me.  About the only time I'll take over a POI is if I happen to be running behind by the first horde night and am not yet ready for the horde in my own base.  And I'll only use that once and name sure I have a horde base ready by the next horde night.  And it is pretty rare that I am running that far behind.

Though I did once take over a destroyed base from ZZTong and completely rebuild and upgrade it.  That was a lot of fun.  Even put a couple of ballistae on the towers in front.

First few days survive the night inside a POI, then build a simple cobblestone base. When I got enough cement and steel, a combined craft/horde base in a more chalenging enviroment.
And for the inner lootgoblin a small storage base with cooking next to traders when I got a few moments to spare.

I'll generally take over a POI for my crafting base early game, and build a horde base.  Eventually I will build a large combined base.

I do, on occasion, start of with a combined base, but that's generally only if there aren't any good POIs near the trader, and the crafting part of the base is generally just an extra floor on top of whatever my regular base is.

I've done both.  And I like doing both.  It's fun completely transforming a poi, so you can't even recognize it any more.

It depends, but first couple of BMs probably.  After that I go custom build for maximum kill ratio.

For the first couple of days my base will be a box just outside of a trader. Very early in the game I'll be attracted to something small, like a Pass-N-Gas station -- numbers 4 and 6 are both familiar. Later in the game I'm more likely to use a remnant or some Tile content.

I do love the idea of taking over a skyscraper, but in the end, it just gets annoying getting to the top floor over and over again lol

I'd say I mostly take over POIs, but it really depends on the playthrough. I tend to think it more realistic as something survivors would do rather than building something from scratch. If I build something custom, it is usually my horde base. I'd like to build more, though. I think my final playthrough of Alpha 20 I decided to build a base at the top of a mesa. I built this modernist-looking house with a gyro-landing strip cut through the mesa below the house. It was probably one of my favorite playthroughs ever.

My only issue is I get overwhelmed by how I can transform the poi into a base. .

That's a skill issue tho especially sense my crafting and horde base is one. I do things like the old days

I prefer to build my own base but I have also taken over POIs. Mostly some POI near the trader. I'm not particularly picky. As long as it has a flat roof or an upper floor and there's only one way up, I'm happy.

You can take over POIs in multiplayer server, it just excludes said POI from the trader quest list - some Admins do not know that sadly

I like taking over the Fire Station POIS, their second floors a safe spot and you have the drive way area for a hoard platform.

Later game I build my own base.

I usually take over a POI at the beginning, after about 3 hours into a game I'll have enough materials saved to start building my horde base, which usually I place in between 2 or 3 towns. That makes it easier for my wife especially since she loves looting and if she starts a new map with me, because of her I can have the cooking and armor crafting mastered before I can finish building my horde base lol

I make my own base. Early on you get a lot of XP by making an upgrading stuff. Later on the benefit isn't so great. It does mean the first couple of days I spend a lot of time gathering materials. Rather than looting or doing missions.

When I don't have a particular build from scratch idea.  I like to take over a POI I have never used before as a bloodmoon base.

Retrofitting it without drastically changing the look is a fun challenge that never seems to get old.

A memorable one from recent memory was a base we made at Zillon Tower.

A problem that I have when taking over a POI for a base

"Done that one"  "Already tried that one"  "Did that one"  😆
