PC Do torches produce HEAT as of A16.4?

We are having a discussion on Steam because it seems someone is not getting Heat Map increase from torches in debug mode.

Anyone can confirm if Candles/Torches still add up to the Heat Map?

Thank you

7d2d wiki says it does, but that information might be outdated

Take a look at this video from Capp00, might give you some more info

Torches are one of the largest heat sources in the game. I posted a chart once.
And how do you explain that guy on Steam using A16.4b and having no heat increase from torches while checking with debug mode?

BTW: thanks everyone for the replies.

yeah, that doesn't help much 'cause it might not be current info... :-|

mino the 7dtd wiki is outdated if im correct capp00 did a vid on heat in game
Yeah, looks like it. To bad its not up to date. But we still manage to survive beyond day 7 :) :)

I dont pay much attention to the heatmap, my bases for crafting and storage are underground with the entrance way out so no real problems there. And at my fighting arena I dont care for heat, its a place to fight anyway :)

All i can say is, i watched this video the other day and the guy had the building site tower covered in torches.

He wondered why he had three screamers at a time wandering around and after he killed them, 15 mins later, there they were again.

I think torches give off a lot of heat but i'm not 100% sure. :D

That's not a real test since the heat could have been generated by so many factors that you won't know if it was for the torches or the forges running in the background or just them shooting over and over.

You can check the torch and candle entries in blocks.xml yourself: my recollection is they have heat values in the latest build.

Is that one person not getting it or everyone not getting it from torches? If it isn't picking up then maybe the person played with the xml files or whatever files changes this.

Also note, POI torches are not the same, and do not generate heat.

Just so you know there is a big difference between torches and other heat producing items like forges. Forges generate heat while they are operated and steadily increase over time. Torches provide a static amount of heat that doesn’t change over time. So it will depend on what the steam poster was measuring.

I may be missing something here... but isn't there just one Heat level value for each chunk?? O_o

Are you implying that there is one value for the heat generated from torches and similar, plus a different heat value from other sources?

This is interesting and nicely laid out but where do I find proof this is what's currently working in A16.4b?

If I accept this on your word I may as well accept anyone else's word too... I'm searching for proof here, sorry.

Those values were taken straight from blocks.xml

You can view them there, or change them as you desire.

Ok, seems like the guy who started the topic on Steam found out that if you speed up the game with debug mode and don't wait for time to pass in real time Heat won't go up as expected.

Thanks everyone :-]

Sigh... the heat system is terrible imo. It synergizes with the "underground god mode" thing and encourages people to make far off entrances and work stations that automatically create items so that they can just pick them up fast without attracting any zombies at that chunk or the one they are building in. You may be talking about torches but I just have to say this every time I see a relevant thread.

C’mon man, I already said it’s in blocks.xml.

My doubt was about the game actually using those values since that guy reported they would not add up in the debugger.

Now we know he was telling the truth but the reason why was more difficult to find...
