Forgive me if this has been addressed...
I love the game. I'm absolutely binging it. Paid $45 on the PS5 like 7 days ago and have put 25 hours on it. I've nearly survived a 7th day so, I believe I will pretty soon.
Only one thing kinda annoys me and sorry, it's minor.
What's up with travel times??
I get on the bike and travel 1.2km...it takes me over an hour of in-game time. What?!?
5km=3.1mi, about. So, for simplicity's sake, 1.2km is about 1/4 of 5km. So 1.2km is about 3/4mi. I used to run 3/4mi in 6 minutes. 6 MINUTES!! Heavens knows I could bike it in half that.
But let's be generous. Dude is carrying 60lbs of junk, so, he's running slow (less effect on biking but let's continue to be generous). Even if he ran 3x as slow, that's 18 minutes 3/4 mile or 12 minute bike.
....why does it take over an hour?

I would recommend a smaller map. Contrary to what you might think larger maps don't necessarily equal more diverse maps. A medium sized map will have most of the POIs you would find on a large map and your travel times are smaller.

TFP would need to add in faster ways of traveling to make it better for players on larger maps.
 
Thanks. I'll consider that when I'm forced into a new save at 3.0 or whenever.
Honestly, I had no idea what I was getting into when I started the game new.
 
I don't know the actual reasons, but here's my guess...

If you move too quickly in this game, you start to have trouble with pop-in as chunks load. To avoid that, they keep the max speed low enough that it doesn't happen too badly for most players. Top speed is a motorcycle, 4x4, or gyro with a supercharger installed and using sprint. Now, they need to have slower speeds for different situations... those vehicles with supercharger installed but not sprinting, no supercharger installed with and without sprinting, minibike with supercharger with and without sprinting, no supercharger installed with and without sprinting, a bicycle with and without sprinting, and then on foot with and without sprinting. In order to get some variation in speeds, they have to limit how fast the slower vehicles like a bicycle can go.

Now, the other option is to change the speed of the day. You can do that by adjusting your options. A 2 hour day would make your "speed" be twice that of a 1 hour day, or 4x the speed of a 30 minute day because you're going the same distance in the same amount of real-time, but in a different amount of game time. That alone prevents making it a realistic speed for all day-length options.

And in the end, it's just a game. Time isn't going to be realistic for most things. After all, if you were to try to grow vegetables in real life, it would take a few months (roughly, and dependent on the vegetable) but in the game it can finish in a couple of days (plus or minus depending on day length). There are many other things that aren't going to be realistic in this game. I wouldn't worry about it much.

@Dead Smarty I don't remember if I had anything in my inventory or not
I believe I was wearing an athletic set at that time, but not 100% sure though since that was several months ago. I just remember leaving her in the dust for a bit while we was on our way to a trader to sell things that she had stored in the minibike.
 
I mean, the time distortion is true for every activity in one way or the other.

Searching loot, killing zombies, digging, crafting...
