PC Did you see how many negative comment on Joels a17 expo?

That's an awesome idea! TFP should totally do that!
You know, something like giving it to streamers on Friday. They can show it of for a few days while the final serious bugs are worked out, and then on Monday everyone else gets a more stable version than what the streamers had.
Even more people would see the game if they make a free weekend on steam. Literally everyone starting steam gets a notification.

Or let the players do the work. Give everyone who already owns the game 2 or 3 game keys that are limited to 3 days of playing so they can spread it among their friends. Free advertising.

Even better: Do all three of these things.

When I fist saw 7DtD I didnt know it was a voxel game, and really its hard to notice if u see a video where someone gun down zombies or run around not building or terraforming. I quickly dismissed it as a Dayz clone with ♥♥♥♥ty graphics. And I honestly get the impression that 7DtD`s voxel engine tech isnt really talked about much. Its always about the zombies and the idea about a horde every 7th day thats the main selling point.

For me I think the graphics are kinda ♥♥♥♥ty, but for a voxel game its the best graphics out there atm.

You mean like opening it up to streamers for a few days? So they can show case the game and who cover a wide range of game playing ability and styles?
Actually, no. Pay professionals to play it a bit, and succinctly showcase the new features of the game. Then put it on the steam store page. Watching Fruit Loop with picture in picture on talking to his band of twitch followers is not what I had in mind. Vanity at its worst.

The devs have done this before... didn't work out cuz the streamer turned out to be a real loser who made more enemies than fans. Since then, Madmole has done the streaming.

Really? Didnt know that. Nice bit of lore there...

Any chance you remember that streamers callname?

Should you try to imply that that's what they do: It's not what they do.

Q: If the game is good enough for streamers to show it, isn’t it good enough for players to play it?A: The version the streamers will be playing will be the same release candidate we plan for the whole community (who wish to test experimental) to get. But we have found that releasing an experimental version on a Monday is much better for us to be able to respond quickly and effectively with hotfixes and get new builds out to you that play better. The whole team isn’t always available on the weekend to address showstoppers but on that Monday we’ll be ready.

I'm sure I can figure it out as I remember part of his name... but with name and shame rules and all that stuff, especially after calling that person a loser... I'd rather not.

Pewdiepie
lol, funny but no.

Well, it is what some of them do or at least what some of them did during the weekend of the A16 streamer event. When some on the team noticed something wrong while watching some of the streams they went in and submitted some fixes during the weekend so that those issues wouldn't be around for the general release. At least a couple of guys on the team have told me that they plan to watch some streams and put in fixes for stuff they see.

I guess one additional benefit of the streamer weekend is that it acts as a sort of soft launch although that is not the intended purpose.

Oh right, I sort of remember that, and I think those streamers were pretty good too (some of them even became regulars here in the forum, at least for a while). Now I'm surprised the devs aren't doing that exact thing again to bring back the hype.

So what about a free weekend on steam? I mean, streamers do have lots of viewers, but everyone who starts steam getting a notification has for sure a bigger reach. Ofc with a stable version and not the experimental.

Nice. Maybe it'd be possible to motivate most of the team to work one weekend per update cycle, that way the experimental could just be released to everyone. That would be even nicer, right. And from what I heard, lack of working employees is the only thing that stands in the way of that. Maybe add a little bonus to the paycheck, for the unusual overtime.

They do (if you are refering to the A16 streamer event)

No, there is also the intention to draw in (and indirectly pay) the streamers by giving them something exclusive. Which translates to more viewers, more reach, more income for them.

Agreed, for that reason it makes sense to postpone the actual release. Free keys and maybe payment for the bigger streamers could be an incentive as well. Most 7dtd streamer would play the experimental asap anyway, like G4K and Kage.

I think communication with the dev's has improved lately, but, look at the negativity on Steam. The games rating has tanked lately, and Steams the primary advertising/sales medium. I think ignoring it between patches or expecting casual or new players to chase after things on Twitch or Reddit that they might not even use wasnt a good call. I just chalk up negativity over a youtube graphical debate due to some not realizing the technical points in regards to getting this stuff to look good on youtube in comparison to how it will actually look on individual machines. Plus, I mean whats madmoles specialty? Isnt he in charge of art or something? That doesnt make him an internet PR specialist or anything. I'd figure he's just doing the vid's because...well..someones got to, right?

Joel's videos, well... In the latest, he spent half the video trying to get into that one house, showing next to nothing. Here is my suggestion:
1. Have at least one video per month that shows the latest changes. Most importantly, that video should be announced on Steam in the "RECENT NEWS"-section. Twitter, facebook, the local forums, whatnot, etc. etc. The video is actually produced by someone who knows their s...tuff, my ad hoc choice would be Games4Kicks, he knows the game well, he has good playing skills, he always cuts boring parts out, and he's entertaining. He could show whatever is new, textures, items, vehicles, bandits, npcs, etc. etc.

2. Modding news. Could be a monthly video as well, showing new modding options, showing the code, explaining the code, showing a couple of experiments with different settings. Particularly this video could have a request-section. In the first video, people would make requests in the comment section, asking the presenter to do this or that, and in the next, the results are demonstrated. Here I'd choose Max Fox, he's got the above mentioned skills covered and he's making his own mod, so he knows that area well too.

3. A dev stream, like many games have it. Devs being interviewed, answering questions from the chat or whatever source. Those bearded guys who were part of the stream team last alpha come to mind, they did a couple interviews. They seem quite chatty.

I would assume that G4K and Max would actually to these videos for free, no idea about the beard guys, but of course, a couple of monies would be more than justified. Or a generous bunch of free keys per video, if these can be bought for 7 bucks sometimes, I'd think they should be either free or at least cheaper for the devs.

I don't see any flaw to your logic. I think "Prime" was streaming a month or so ago but forgot to mention it except on twiter or something so most missed it.
