Is it just me, or do the textures seem fuzzier and more cartoonish?
Yeah they do but that’s because on this update, your graphics settings were nuked. So you’ll have to manually set up your desired scheme in the Video Settings menu.

When it comes to RWG, have faith. I have things in the fire, I just don't have time to finish them up prior to the holidays so I put in what I had ready to go and put the biome stuff back to the old a16 version until I get the new cellular automata (self sorting) biome code in place. Then snow and desert will never touch

and it's output looks very similar to that blobby image above that someone posted (already tested in a test project).

Awesome news! This is all we really need... just give us some idea of what the roadmap is. If we know there is a planned destination, crappy stops along the way aren't that big a deal.

Please enjoy your well deserved holiday break when you finally get it, and thanks for your hard work!

Hmm. They supposedly fixed that, I had some in the previous build but none in the current.
over half our map is still floating buildings that collapse whenever sleepers spawn in them.. it lags the system

Additionally, now and then when I jump into my game, I don't have the ability to craft. Is that the known recipes.xml corruption bug? When I back out and continue again, it's fine?
Check your video settings. I noticed the same thing and then I checked my video settings and they had all changed.

A17 introduces the first iteration of a new random world generation system. People complain because it's not perfect the first time.
The devs explain they are working on it throughout experimental.

People complain.

The largest complaint was the biome placement (which for the record I liked).

The devs state they will return it to its former glory throughout experimental.

People complain.

Each build that comes out adds new random world changes.

People complain.

A new iteration of random world begins to bring back its "former glory".

People complain.

...if it was up to me I would either murder the lot of you, or ban you from playing experimental.

Clearly there is a large section of people that do not understand what work-in-progress means.

There is a huge difference between constructive feedback during experimental and complaining doing experimental.

Constructive feedback consist of stating what is changed, and why it does not play as well, and accepting an answer that states these features will be improved.

Complaining consist of stating what is not finished yet, and complaining that it is not finished yet, and expecting new systems to work straight out of the box.

(only 4400+ hours since a14, computer gaming since 1972 (3000+ games), and I know MOST gamers, I mean ALL gamers, I mean all Earthers, I mean fellow galaxians, err, I mean everyone in the universe agrees with me...)

Thats just another way you try to implement im just cying around.
I can handle random people on the internet calling me whatever they want and thinking about me whatever they want, no problem with that. I just see that some get bashed for no reason and point it out. Cause i would prefer people to actually discussing the game.
ROFL!

I'd like to shine a soft light on something I've noticed.

When a dev has spoken about an area where things are in flux and changing, and included rough targets they're working towards, the forums seem to almost always become more supportive, even if there's disagreement.

@Drithyls post promted me to notice this ( https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?74084-Developer-Discussions-Alpha-17&p=908731&viewfull=1#post908731 ).

While I certainly have seen the 'ugly' that has happened in the past as a result of TFPs saying "x" and that not immediately happening, or "thinking of" or "possibly" being heard as, "We Promise!"

I'm just wondering if, maybe, we can work towards being more respectful towards each other & hopefully rebuild some trust, encouraging TFPs to share a bit more freely with us their vision going forward.

It would be a nice New Years resolution anyway. :)

Yes. My motorcycle disappears whenever I park it and wander into a city on foot to loot. I don't know if it might happen as I stand right next to it. I just notice after some time looting, the icon disappears from the compass.
Workaround: Don't put valuable crap in your vehicle!

I just spawn a new one in so I can continue testing, as I've already confirmed it doesn't matter if you build it, or cheat it in... it will disappear.
I have noticed the icon disappears after about half a city block but once you get back to within that area it pops back up, I usually make a quick mark on the map to follow the red flag back to my bike.

This guy is stating his opinion and you come out and say he made errors and he needs to correct them? That's laughable. Sad to know we have trolls in here.
My first sentence was just an example of offensive and very useless commentary and not meant seriously. The intention was to show that such a commentary is NOT feedback anyone wants or really can use. I probably should have put hyphens around it. The second sentence explains it.

I am not sure the percentage of players that come into these forums to voice there opinions that own the game.

I pop in rarely and there is always a group of known names that are very prominent in here.

Therefore with the current back and fourth changes within the builds I am curious how many posts it takes for the TFP to turn about an idea, change a game mechanic and mould the game to experimental feedback over there own. ?

Ok, about the latest balance changes... I usually make do with stone arrows until I can make iron arrowheads in a forge.

Right now, that's gated by needing an anvil in hammer and forge 2, which is gated by intelligence 5.

So for a sp game, you have to mine and dig for almost 2 days for the resources needed for the anvil, you don't get enough xp from that to level up much, and can't kill zombies other than occasional strays.

I'm on day 5 and it's been a struggle just to find enough food and water to survive, and there is no way I'll have iron arrows on horde night... I'd need 8 more points to spend, and if I grind zombie killing and don't put points in anything but that progress, (and if I can stumble upon animals for food) I'm probably looking at day 13 or 14 before getting an anvil in a found forge.

And by then I'll be able to make a forge and iron tools, so found forges are pretty much worthless now unless you make iron for repairing found tools.

I get Gazz wanted it harder for forge use, but quintupling the resources needed for it and ALSO gating it behind so many points really kills a sp playthrough. Day 14 horde night without at least iron arrows is just going to suck.

If this follows by our last playthrough, we couldn't have a forge till day 28 or so with two players.

Maybe just increase the resources needed and not gate the anvil? If you invest no points in anything at all now, you can have a found forge working by day 7 or 8... but you won't be able to cook food, carry anything, fight, or literally do much else progress wise.

Imho this was a bad knee jerk reaction to Jax's post about the stone age. Our mp with two people will see irradiated in day 14 hordes, and we are supposed to fight them with stone arrows?

If this is the last build before the holidays, we'll just have to cheat the current balance and spawn in a forge, because this is just rediculous.

I want it hard, but fair and winnable, and with this imbalance it's pretty much neither.

Same issue.

Same issue, even seeing POI buried in terrain in world editor. RWG buggy on many levels with this build.

I haven't had time to try the latest build from last night. Has there been an increase to Zs in the wild at all? The last couple nights I have been working on a base build and it's been more then lonely out there, I feel like the Zs don't like me anymore. They aren't even stopping in to say hi or to laugh at my build lol.

I also only play single player, and whilst there are some aspects of this game that appear to be weighted slightly towards the multiplayer genre as far as balance, I think you must have been super unlucky to be struggling as much as you stated here.

With only one point in Boom! Headshot, and one point in Hidden Strike, stone arrows were comfortably able to keep me safe, at distance, as long as I opened with a crouch shot, especially when hunting at night. An iron reinforced club as backup to land a single finishing blow if anything made it past my onslaughts and I don't believe I had taken a single point of damage before Day 7 horde. After that I'll admit I got cocky and reckless, but thats my fault not the games.

I had looted enough POI's to have more than one full stack of Steel arrows looted which I saved for the horde, found 3 anvils in working stiffs boxes, along with a working forge at my trader, I had crafted 500 iron arrowheads, and kept them back to only be used from days 8-14.

Admittedly I play 90 min days, so reaching level 25 by day 7 was a breeze, even though I wasn't deliberately power-levelling by any means. Going outside and shooting things from a safe distance with stone arrows, whilst predominantly sneaking is a powerful, safe and easy strategy for the early days of the game.

Learn to love the burnt forest biome, the zombies keep themselves nicely lit as easy target practice at night, and also super easy to see them long before they can see you. Shoot them once from distance and they will come running to roughly where you were when you fired, and they just stop. As long as you've to maybe 7 or 8 blocks away, you have an easy headshot.

Even more so for the dungeon POIs where it becomes quite obvious where the 'jump-scares' are going to be coming from and sneaking is able to pull one zambie at a time with no drama (except ferals, but that requires a bit more care - and a change of underwear occasionally - but they are also few and far between in early days). It is possible to sneak shoot the slatted doors that often hide the zeds from the far side of the room, which breaks the door and doesn't wake the zombie. Easy headshot, which knocks them down, second headshot when they get up and its dead. Maybe need a third/fourth headshot for big Moe/Bertha, but they move so slowly this is still easy.

Once you've got your iron arrowheads (fired from a dyed Compound bow - not even remotely difficult to find in loot), and a couple of points in Perception, almost all of the zombies (warrior level) are one-shot dead if you land a crouch headshot, including screamers, which saves a lot of night-time aggro once your forges are all burning away. Get used to the arrow drop and this is easy too. You'll never run into stamina issues after the first few days, and there are plenty of boars/rabbits/chickens/deer around to keep up with your food needs. Eggs are a little rare, but if you're going hardcore bow mode then you never stop looting birds nests anyway (currently sitting on a chest full of just over 1000 feathers).

If you wanna stick with the bow as it sounds like you do, make the most of it by dabbling a little in stealth too, and you may find you'll never touch a gun again (except maybe on horde nights). Its hella fun, and super safe!!

OMG the drama...

How about this. We voluntarily agree:

1. When we post things that are critical of the new experimental build, they should be specific and actionable by TFP

2. This is experimental, so we recognize the things we don't like may be improved or replaced

3. Saying things like "this is garbage" or "I'm giving up on this game" or "yet another example of dumbing down for the noobs" accomplishes nothing

4. Don't start flame wars with other forum members

5. Roland will occasionally be a jerk for the sake of being funny, and we accept that and laugh or move on

I realize there's a snowball's chance in Hell of everyone doing this, but can't we at least try?

On a more positive note: I like the new build. I'm glad that the level gates are gone, and I don't think that the new system results in the "iron tools on day 1" situation that everyone was worried about. Especially since a making iron tools requires another intelligence level (and another three points to spend) above the ability to just make a forge.

My one criticism right now: I would like TFP to make fixing RWG a higher priority. Kinyajuu's system sounds awesome, and I'm already getting tired of Navesgane. I'd rather play a great RWG world with the current bugs than have him fix the bugs and do RWG later. But that's just me.

Can anyone tell me the XP amounts they are getting from stone/wood?

it doesnt seem it changed from b231 at all for me. new game new everything.

Chopping any tree with a stone axe only gives 12xp at the end, nothing while in the process.

am i missing something here?

it's unintended. Not sure when it will change, but they didn't mean to have it become worse than what it was previous builds

which ever parking lot this is. everytime I come to it, it falls apart. like it is hollow beneath the asphalt

i like how i cannot click on this image and see a bigger version, that i am being blocked and moderated from clicking on peoples photos.. what did i do to be prevented from clicking on them?

Not sure how are you guys playing this version atm then... how to gain xp or progress into anything lol.

I don't want to go chasing zombies everywhere, if it was me in that field i'd try to sneak away and hide from the monsters as much as i can till i'm prepared because i know they'll be coming for me at day 7s.

i'm wondering if there are other players out there like me that avoid unwanted confrontations as much as possible, by mining/farming/gathering/chopping and only fight when my back is against the wall clearing a POI or only in the open street where im comfortable.

Hate the fact every POI is a dungeon instead of only making the large ones only and leaving some normal like A16.4 unless they become a quest zone, then go all out.

We're just waiting for a fix to play normally because this forces me into a play-style i'm against.
