My answer is yes to all your questions. Haven't taken cardio or healing factor before level 20 in any of my playthroughs yet. Pack-mule might be an option; but pack-mule vs. iron armour/iron tools? That's not even a fair comparison.
Maybe there should be a poll after a week, to see what people invest their first points into.
We could not play any differently. I find my iron tools. You can't find stamina regen or inventory space. Iron armor is trash lol.

Haven't been able to find an answer to this anywhere else, but which weapons are considered 'Light' for flurry of blows, and which are considered 'Heavy' (other than the sledgehammer) for Heavy Metal.

Afaik the sledge hammer is the only heavy weapon. I have a friend that looked into the XML at the axe and said it was medium. I'm guessing fob works with clubs and machete?

They ignore this. Cherry picking at it's best. It's a tradeoff and I think its an interesting one. Do i sacrafice cardio 1, on day 1, to get iron tools I probably dont need so early. What about packmule? Healing factor?
The forges arent going to just fall out of the sky people. Lol
You literally need 3 points for a forge (you get 4 for launching the game), that gives a power spike bigger than anything else at day 1.

Cardio at day 1 is questionable at least. All my A17 spawns were close to a town. Edit: didnt need to run anywhere because of that. Maybe you meant rex?

Hehe true. I haven't even played the newest build yet, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt of course. But when I read that one could get a forge going on day 1-2, I got all kinds of nasty flashback to A16.4.

Well full disclosure, I haven't either lol.

My last game trader was like 2km away, or something like that. And yea even if that wasent the case I think cardio is important. So is healing factor, sex rex, pack mule, cooking skill.

I think you guys are way overselling the importance of a day 1 forge and iron tools.

Everyone plays different I guess but with zombies, still, being the best way to level I dont even bother grinding responses till at least day 4 and sometimes day 5. Its all zombie slaying and looting. I dont need an axe or sledge hammer to kill. And ill probably find one anyway. I find all my tools.

I have little to no need for a forge till day 3, at the earliest. As a matter of fact talking about this here has convinced me. Only reason I might go int early is for the bike, but still gotta find tires or acid. I'll probably get a forge day 3.

It is not an argument that we, who dont like the change, dont have to play that way. Because it is very clearly the best possible way to progress in the game to start on day 2 with a full set of iron gear. You can explore, build and level way faster and saver afterwards and will probably just catch up in skillpoints. Anyway, there are no 7 perks in the game that match the value the forge gives you especialy since you most likely want it anyway sooner or later. There is absolutely no reason to not get it immediatly and increase stamina reg, backpack etc with the points you get afterwards.

Can anyone of you just give me a example of 7 perks that he considers better than rushing the forge and start day 2 with a full set of iron gear?

Just one single example for a day 1 scenario that puts me further ahead then rushing a forge and grinding iron. How could i possible have a better start into day 2?

The problem with unlocking the forge on day 1 is that it is a stage-defining piece of technology. You basically have the stone-age before you unlock it (stone axe, stone shovel, wooden club. That kind of technology). After unlocking the forge you have access to hammers, axes, shovels, pickaxes, iron traps, buckets and the like. You've entered the iron age, so to speak. So by being able to build a forge on day one you completely bypass the early game. This drastically reduces the value of these tools, since you can get them on day 1-2 already.
In A17 you could easily find a house with a working forge on day 1 anyway and set up your first temporary base there. That's what we've done on two of our last three games.

So it's not a contrast between "day 1 forge vs day 15 (or whatever) forge". It's a contrast between "spend your starting points to build a forge on day 1" or "find a forge on day 1 and spend your starting points on something else".

I was in favour of level-gated perks rather than perks with escalating costs, but being able to rush the forge is hardly a huge deal. If people want to do that then let them. I'll be happily spending my points on something else.

It would be different if you were able to rush motorbikes, solar panels, and blade traps on day 1. But an early forge is nothing special.

Amazing performance with the B231 patch! I am now getting 65-80 FPS even indoors! Must have been this change that made the big jump for me:

"Video option reflection off to actually disable the probe and specular part of Overlayed_TA shader"

I can finally enjoy the game properly. Thank you TFP!

Problem is your passing off subjective statements as facts. And I disagree.

No one is right or wrong. You should understand that.

Clear out a house with a forge on day 1 and get literally any other 7 perks because spending perks on day 1 for a forge is a complete waste of points unless the RNG hates you and doesn't give you a forge-house anywhere within your first day's search capability.

You can still "grind iron" and get your iron gear, if that's what you want.

What's the problem with the forge earlier available ? You can find forges everywhere. I even don't bother with that skill in the beginning, I have a solid character to build first. Set the zombies move "run" at day and "sprint" at night. "Run" is slower that in A16 and very enjoyable now. You'll have other concerns than smelting stuff and crashing boulders.
Do not quite understand the forge thing myself either. Day 11 in last build and didn't even think about using a forge. I suppose it's down to playing styles. I just don't look at iron as a top priority, and as you say if I wanted a forge I just look for one in a POI anyways.

Im asking everyone to give an example that shows im wrong, as long as nobody can provide that i consider what i say as right.

I think having extra stamina regen while sprinting, using less stamina on melee and mining, having more inventory space, doing 50% more headshot damage and cooking bacon and eggs is a better use of points than having iron tools, you can find easily and iron armor, that drains stamina and makes you slower.

Good enough for you?

This exactly, I wouldnt even go for forge first. About to start a game and I wasnt planning on going for the first 7 points for forge anyway. Day 1 other stuff is more of a priority than crafting a forge. Even more now that tools and weapons are a little more even until you can mod them. Stamina is still more important to me than iron in a17.

I used to take this skill. Now i just wander the map and put a marker on every station i can find. If you don't modify the blocks to be a bit stronger vs Zeds, i find it's a waist to try and settle down.

It feels much more important to up fighting skills, looting or barting.

That was my example.
